There have been a lot of characters who have died on the set of
, including this season, when we saw the likes of Ramsay Bolton and Hodor (and many others) say goodbye to the series. Of course, the actors who play the characters weren\'t going to leave the set empty-handed. This week, actor Kristian Nairn, who played Hodor into Season 6 on the HBO show, revealed what he took from the set on his last day, and it is super bittersweet. Here\'s what he had to say:
Speaking to the Making of Game of Thrones at this year\'s Comic-Con, Kristian Nairn talked about how he had asked George R.R. Martin numerous times what Hodor\'s fate was. Apparently, Martin didn\'t trust him with the secret and kept his mouth shut until Nairn eventually got that fated call from the show\'s producers. However, like most actors, he ultimately opted to take home something from the set. That something ended up being a piece of the doors that broke in the fateful scene when Hodor "held the door" so that Bran and Meera could escape into the snow.
Honestly, a lot of people take costumes or other weird items from the set, but the item Hodor took came from such a meaningful television scene. It was one of the most impactful scenes during Season 6 of
and not simply because the scene resonated emotionally. The end of the episode also finally revealed why Hodor is called Hodor and did so in a way that was truly warped and twisted and even involved Bran. The whole latter half of the episode wove Bran and Hodor\'s narrative closer and closer together, until Hodor held the door, sacrificing himself.
The props crew may not always like it when actors pilfer items from the set, but there are certainly more valuable things to grab than a piece of broken wood. However, that piece of broken wood will always be a reminder for Kristian Nairn regarding the work he was able to do on the long-running series--work that has made him rather famous.
He\'s not the only one who took something from the set this season, either. Iwan Rheon also revealed he took a duplicate of the knife that killed Osha, because that\'s obviously a fitting trophy for a villain on a series to take. It actually looks like the characters are sneaking off items that are really fitting for each of their characters. Nairn grabbed a bittersweet prop and Rheon grabbed a dastardly one. Perfect.
New episodes of Game of Thrones won\'t be coming for a while, but for now you can check out what we know about Season 7.
