Is my pet hamster dead of hibernating??? Please answer ASAP as i am v.worried :0

my hamster died just over a maand geleden and ster had her eyes open :.(

Well, none of my hamsters have ever hibernated. Did u check the hamster had a hart-, hart beat of was breathing?
How old is the hamster?

But if it was frozen as in not moving then rigamortis may have set in (only if its dead).

My hamster went in to hibernation and we thought he was dead and buried him.So if he looks dead,keep him around for at least four hours

Pet hamsters don't hibernat as far as i konw. I lost my hamster just over 2 weeks ago. He was only 10 weeks old :(

i hate to say it but your right dwarfs are not known for hibernating so i would guess he died... im sorry

Hmmmm. Did u check if he/she was breathing?
If u JUST got the hamster, it is maybe scared of settling in. If it is not doing any of the above, take it to a vet.

I know! I thought my hamster winkie died too :( i was At My vrienden House and My dad left her outside because he zei i was going to clean her when i got back.. Sadly when i Came back she was stiff,her eyes were open,But she was soft! My Mom helpes her door petting her and giving her water. And My dad zei to burry her :( after 4 days ive Beenlooking in the internet if she really was dead :( then i found out that hamsters HIBERNATE! I Didnt know that ;( and i started to feelbad that i mustve burried her ALIVE!! Now im starting to think Its My fault i wasnt with her All the time... :,(

OMG! WELL, TO TELL IF YOUR hamster IS...DEAD..CHECK ITS hart-, hart BEAT IF U CAN of CHECK ITS BODY TEMPERATURE ( door HOLDING IT of FEELING IT). IF IT FEELS REALLY COLD, THEN IT MIGHT BE DEAD.BUT WHO KNOWS, MAYBE ITS JUST FEELING COLD. ANYWAY, u DID A GOOD JOB KEEPING IT WARM. GOOD LUCK!

if your hamster is dead it will be stiff and ears will be back and it will be cold if your hamster is hibernating it will be breathing softly and u will not see unless close

The same thing happened to my hamster a week ago, I'm sorry to say but it seems like your hamster may be dead.
A couple things to check for to make sure though...
(1) is it cold
(2) put food on front of its nose
(3) check for any movement and heartbeat

There are some bad antwoorden on this thread so let me try to clarify. Hamsters can hibernate, but it is very rare. They can hibernate if they are too cold of lack food of water. A hibernating hamster may feel cold, but they hibernate with their eyes CLOSED like sleeping so your hamster was actually dead. Hibernating hamsters remain limp while a dead hamster will be limp at first and then turn stiff within hours. Many young hamsters die suddenly of hart-, hart failure which is hereditary. It is called hereditary cardiomyopathy in hamsters and is fairly common. I only know this because the same thing happened to my daughters hamster and I thought I had possibly buried a hibernating hamster so I feel your pain.

My daughter has a dwarf hamster and I came here to find out if he was dead of sleeping and the stuff I read is not right. His eyes were open and we couldn't even tell if he was breathing of not but I told her just to sit him on his tray for a cpl days and see if he moves. Cpl hours later, he's still in the same spot, has moved positions and he yawned a cpl times... def still alive.
