Below is my review of the 2004 BBC miniseries, "NORTH AND SOUTH", which is an adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's 1855 novel:

"NORTH AND SOUTH" (2004) Review

If someone had told me years geleden that I would find myself watching the 2004 BBC televisie adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s 1855 novel, let alone purchase a DVD copy of the miniseries, I would have dismissed that person’s notion as inconceivable. I have never shown any vorige interest in ”NORTH AND SOUTH”. And I am still baffled at how I suddenly became interested in it.

Mind you, I have been aware of the 2004 miniseries for the...

LOOKING BEYOND "NORTH AND SOUTH"

In the pas few years, I have become increasingly obsessed with costume dramas based upon British literature. My obsession has not only focused upon films and miniseries based on the many movie and televisie adaptations, but also on various British novels. Ranked near the top, boven of the lijst of my favoriete stories is the 2004 BBC miniseries, ”NORTH AND SOUTH”.

Adapted door Sandy Welch from Elizabeth Gaskell’s 1855 novel, ”NORTH AND SOUTH” told the story of a former clergyman’s daughter named Margaret Hale, who follows her uprooted parents to the Northern...

Thornton lifts Margaret’s bowed head gently and even meer gently, kisses her. The kiss becomes a little meer insistent but she parts her lips and responds, instead of pulling back. All this, on the platform of a busy train station. The popularity of the BBC miniseries, North and South, based on Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel of the same title, probably owes much to this scene. Many have thought it one of the most romantic scenes ever to graze television. Some have argued that this scene would not have happened in Victorian times and with a character as “maidenly” as Margaret Hale.

I would...

Brian Protheroe is an exceptionally talented and underrated British actor, musician and singer.
His first single, "Pinball", was released in August 1974 followed door an album of the same title. This was followed over the volgende few years door two meer albums , Pick Up and I/you. The song "Pick-Up"" was the centrepiece of a cabaret toon called KinoTata, put on door Martin Duncan, Protheroe's lyrical collaborator.
His songs are a lyrical delight of word play combined with beautiful melodies. His muziek transports u effortlessly to whichever setting his song may inspire, for instance, a dreamy 1970's...

"NORTH AND SOUTH" (1975) Review

I had been a fan of Elizabeth Gaskell's 1855 novel, ever since I first saw the 2004 televisie adaptation a few years ago. Mind you, I had never read the novel. And I still have yet to read it. Despite this, I became a fan of the story. And when I learned that the BBC planned to release an older adaptation of Gaskell's novel, which first aired in 1975, I looked vooruit, voorwaarts to seeing it.

As one would assume from reading this review, I eventually purchased a copy of the 1975 adaptation on DVD. And if I must be honest, I do not regret it. "NORTH AND SOUTH" proved to...
