What is the term for someone from the US?

Because I'm from the US of A, and we are commonly known as American. But theres North America and South America, and every country and town inside of them. So, what do u think people from the US should be called?

We are called American, then there's Canadian, Central American, and South American. And for the last two sections of the Americas there is sub-groups, such a Salvadorian of Brazilian. Our name includes "America" in it, that's why I'm guessing we are classified as Americans.
