Random fact, Up until about the turn of the century, every firearm in the world used gunpowder in only about 5 different grades (or grain fineness). The French invented smokeless powder in the 1880s, but they kept the formula secret. Because of this, other nations needed to develop smokeless powders all on their own. Most countries developed flake like powders similar to the French Poudre B, however the British developed a "powder" that was shaped like dried spaghetti.
Another random fact, smokeless powder isn't smokeless, it just produces far less smoke than black powder. It also tends to smell meer like burned wood, while black powder smells like sulfur.
