Wait till you get to the Snape's Valentine chapter!
Thanks for reading, and for your comment.
I like how Welkin is in control of herself; as you wrote, she's not easily intimidated. I also like her potty mouth! I can relate to that a little too easily. Basically, she reminds me of some of my female friends--I tend to be the more quiet side-kick to these upfront ladies.
The way you write for Severus and the other canon characters is true to them, I feel. I find myself laughing at the way you phrase Severus' choice of words-I can hear him saying those things.
Would it be better for me to post my comments on your site?
I hope to keep reading more later on today.
How do you like my take on Lucius? He's a real snake in the grass, and great fun to write.
Hermione may seem a little out of character at first but there's a reason for that which becomes apparent later on. I also introduce a few more original characters into the mix later on.
Whatever suits you as to where to post/send comments is fine with me. The comments made at my site get forwarded to my coffeecup.com account, which I don't get any notice from when they're made, so I don't tend to check it as often. There's also the email address I set up for "Welkin"...welkin_cooper@yahoo.c
Just pick which place you'd like to send comments. Do people get annoyed if you post too much on here? It seems a bit empty at the moment. Where is everybody?
Off to code more chapters.
I like how you're handling Lucius' character; it strikes me as true to canon. On the Severus and Lucius site (don't know if you like slash!!), another fan, BlackHound, has been writing a terrific fanfic, "My Secret Heart." She's taken liberties with Lucius' character, and it's been playing out so well.
I admire all of you who write. I have an idea, but I just can't commit it to writing! The honest truth is that I'm really only interested in my lady hooking up with Sev. I've got an awful one track mind where that's concerned. Who knows, maybe I'll give it a try. In the meantime, I'm so glad you've joined.
I'm okay with slash that's well written. As far as I'm concerned everybody has a right to view the characters through their own lens. Only J.K. Rowling owns the canon characters, not me.
If that's what you're interested in, you should write it that way. You have to write to please yourself first and foremost, I think. I encourage you to do that. Everybody gets their own Severus! It's Severus Snape liberation!
I started out writing a sexual fantasy that was just supposed to be a few chapters and only for myself and it just suddenly developed a plot and took on a life of its own and went crazy on me. LOL!
I get overwhelmed when I've gone on the big fanfiction sites. I just don't know where to start there's so much there! I was purposely avoiding other fanfics of Snape when I first started writing mine last fall because I didn't want to be influenced, or maybe get depressed because I ran across a really great one and decided I can't write as well as someone else and quit. I'm writing for myself basically, but I do want some other people to enjoy it, and I've incorporated a few things and suggestions into it based on what feedback I've had so far.
Two more chapters up: Welkin and the Pink Piranha and Sins of the Mother. Bet you can guess who the Piranha is...
I read thru to the Valentine's Day chapter. I wanted to savor every bit of it, but wouldn't you know that that's when the rest of my family came home and decided that I was the most important person to talk to. Usually when I try to start a conversation, it's like speaking into a void. Put me in front of the computer, engrossed with what's on the screen, and suddenly I'm the most fascinating person in the world.
Anyhoo, I'll go back to reread that; such sweet punishment for being distracted. Snape talking dirty is almost too much to handle!
Snape likes to please his lady, and is an interesting combo of raunchy and romantic the way I write him. He's very formal and staid in public, but quite...shall we say...demanding, in private.
That chapter is one of my favorites...as well as the Catfight chapter, which has a lot of humor, and brings Lucius back into the picture. Lucius, pampered aristocratic type that he is, becomes somewhat fixated on her, largely due to the fact that he just can't have her. He's used to getting what he wants.
Oooo...I also like that she has a witchy background. I got to the chapter in which Dumbledore informed her that she will begin instruction.
I'm laughing at the pregnancy chapters; specifically how Sev hopes that their more active lovemaking will resume after their son is born. Ha ha ha. He doesn't yet know that children are the best deterrence to their parents having sex. Ok, that's too much of me projecting.
Severus didn't really know how to handle Huldra, since he's never been the object of female interest in the past. Welkin had to step in and rescue him...between apple fritters and nips of firewhiskey from his flask...
Yes, Welkin and Severus are both very jealous natured. Welkin likes to think she isn't but she's wrong. He's just a lot worse about it than she is. She's about three or three and a half years older than him, but they both act pretty childish for their ages, as Dumbledore pointed out to Fawkes. LOL! I love Dumbledore. He's such a manipulator. For purposes of my story I made him bisexual by the way.
Not just any witchy background either, as it turns out. The Daily Prophet people don't know how correct they were when they made up that blurb about her in the wedding writeup.
Yes...our Severus is a very sexual creature. He's finally hit the jackpot with Welkin after years of drought.
Wait till you get to the birth and see where it takes place! It's also on a very significant night...purposely.
I think you portray Sev as many of us imagine: reserved, yet once unleashed-beware. Pretty heady stuff.
Yes...a hard man to get started, but once he does, he's unstoppable. Then again, who would want to stop him?
I'm glad I got the birthing scene right...since I've never had a baby myself, it was a bit of a stretch.
I forgot to mention, but I like the links to the birth announcement, Welkin's wedding dress, and the other images.
Ye gods, the argument Welkin and Sev had struck a little too close to home, but w/o the spanking.
Glad you like the images I added. The bracelet, wedding gown and tiara helped as visual images to focus on when I was writing, so I decided to throw them in for the reader as lagniappe. The birth announcement was the result of wondering what Wizarding World couples do to announce a birth, and I decided it would be pretty much the same thing that a Muggle couple would do, except delivered by Owls. And yes, he will have his father’s nose when he gets older, despite what Severus might hope…<grin>
I think it’s funny that Severus reacted like he did when she was deceptive with him, considering that he’s been practically nothing but deceptive with her since the very beginning of the relationship. He was the master of the 'lie by omission'. His lies are about to come back to bite him in the butt though, as you’ll see in the next several chapters. She won’t believe him about something he’s being totally truthful about. There’s only one thing he could ever do that would make her think of leaving him, and she’ll be convinced that he’s done it!
This leads up to one of my favorite chapters: "Have Yourself a Very Weasley Christmas". I do love those Weasleys and their annual 'Christmas debacle' was the perfect setting for the drama that was set into motion by the scene that's about to play out in the Hogwarts library... Poor Severus...poor Welkin...the course of true love never runs smoothly as they say...
The visit by her brother is leading to more information about their family, I hope.
As far as Welkin’s insecurity about Hermione, it wouldn’t have mattered who it was, but a lot of people seem to like to put them together, so I used her because it’s believable that she might have had a crush on him at some point.
Welkin isn’t a perfect person. She has her own insecurities and she can be jealous, stubborn and proud. She’s not about to play second to anybody where it comes to Severus. She knows from experience how dominant he can be and can’t conceive that Hermione, who she considers to be young, shy and guileless, might have actually put the moves on him, not the other way around!
Ah yes…Welkin’s guarded family secret will be revealed in chapter 27, “Bloodlines” due to information gleaned from her grandmother’s journal, which her brother Glenn supplied to Dumbledore.
In spite of her insecurities, I think Welkin is a great match for Sev. I love how her openness is beginning to rub off on him, at least when they're alone! I also love how Sev is awkward with Sully. I totally imagine him feeling uneasy with his own son, even though he was so proud when Welkin was pregnant!
The few Hermione/Snape fanfics that I’ve really, really liked were written by Ruth Solomon, aka Ms. Figg and were pretty smutty. Ruth is such a wonderful writer though, that she could pair him with practically anybody and make me like it. <grin>
One of the primary things I think Severus needs is fun. He really hasn’t had much during his lifetime, except maybe during the early Lily years, which is a shame.
Obviously I see Welkin as a great match for Severus too. I think they’re good for each other. I like to think of their relationship as being perfect because of their imperfections, not in spite of them. They are very tolerant of each other, even if they get annoyed about things on a day-to-day basis. They genuinely like each other.
He actually will get a lot less awkward with Sully as time goes on, although he will always refer to him as the more formal Sullivan, while Welkin goes for the more casual Sully.
I just finished reading all the chapters that you've coded so far, and wow! What a fun read. When you first mentioned the "Pink Piranha", I wasn't even thinking about Umbridge! I think she's one of the most evil characters JKR created. I got more upset with her in some scenes than I even felt for Voldemort.
Huldra's revenge was really cruel. I kind of expected her to be behind it. Poor Sev and Welkin. Sex may not be everything, but that is a nasty way to get back at someone. And before I forget, I thoroughly loved the scene in which Narcissa disgustingly told Lucius of the things Welkin does for Sev. The image of him sitting there, in agony, until Narcissa asks him if that's what he wants too! So funny. I like Narcissa, even though we really don't know much about her.
Dumb question, but there will be more twists regarding Welkin's Mamie's journal? If I read it correctly, it sounds that Huldra will still have access to the copy she secretly made. Love the intrigue.
I’m so happy to have a new reader! I was beginning to think nobody was interested in Welkin…except Severus that is…;) I’ve had a few people refer to it as a “page turner”, and everybody seems to love the Welkin character. I assume it’s good to say it’s a page turner. At least I hope it is. One of my favorite comparisons though was a comment that “It’s like reading Gone With the Wind, but with Magic and Wizards and lots of smut!” LOL!
I thought the Pink reference would be a dead giveaway that it was Umbridge. She is one of JKR’s most evil characters because she seems like somebody you might actually meet in real life - all sweet and fluffy on the outside and pure evil on the inside.
Yes. Huldra’s revenge plot was pretty awful, menacing poor Sully like that, and what she put Severus through with the impotence thing. Notice how his abandonment issues came out again, when he thought Welkin would leave him over it.
I loved writing that scene with Narcissa and Lucius too. I kind of like Narcissa in an odd way. I even like Lucius, although he’s still a snake. He’s such a great character to play with. I see it as he really does love Narcissa, but he’ll never really change his ways. Narcissa was fabulously prissy about Welkin’s advice, until the brandy hit her. Her refusal to use the words that Welkin had used was really funny to me, especially the way she described oral…
Oh yes, the journal is going to finally give Welkin’s secret away to Voldemort at some point. Notice how the copy was confiscated from Huldra’s room. It ends up in the office of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic. It’s only a matter of time before they examine it there.
A clue on things to watch for…Welkin’s fear of heights will be important at the conclusion of the story…so will the “health drink” and an unusual ability that she will exhibit which will be described in Chapter 40, when poor little Sully is once again menaced by me. I should be ashamed of myself. He’s such a little charmer! And I’m treating him like a mere plot device. If you haven’t already figured out where this is all heading, you will figure it out when you read that chapter I think, but I don’t think it will ruin anything for you.
As for Umbridge, I have a knack for being dense at times. When I read your first reference to it, I automatically assumed it was something sexual! Lacking a decent imagination of my own, I can't even say what I was expecting.
Narcissa being prudish about oral was very funny. I like Lucius because he is just so awful and snotty. While I thought all the HP books were well written, I regret that JKR didn't give more backstory on all these characters. I've said that about Bellatrix, and I feel that way about the Malfoys too. Then, I keep forgetting that these are YA books, and that her target audience would probably be bored by all that info. So, who knows. Maybe someday she'll give us that. In the meantime, I so enjoy the fanfics. I'm new to reading these, and I can see why they draw such passionate response.
I figured Welkin's fear of heights would play out somehow. As before, I look forward to reading more!
A Meeting of the Minds was simply intense. The idea that Welkin had such powers, yet was told to hide them, contrasts with how Lily's parents were proud that she was a witch. Welkin having dreams of a dark prince...sigh...words escape me.
One of the reasons I have her singing at The Hog's Head is to give her access to that secret passageway there to Hogwarts, which will be needed by her in the future.
A Meeting of the Minds gives a little taste of what Welkin might be capable of, but the full extent of it will be shown in a future chapter. It was also a chapter that came about as a result of me wondering what it would be like if a couple were making love while practicing Leglimens. With both their bodies and minds joined it would have to be incredibly intense! She finally decided to share herself completely, not an easy thing for her since she's so independent.
Yes...Welkin's dreams of a dark prince with the funny name...like the hiss of a snake...they discuss that briefly in the next chapter: "Fears, Fate, and Fantasies"
I plan to code like crazy tomorrow and try to get a lot more up on the website, if not every chapter I've written so far.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. Love the use of the heart in your commentary.
A Meeting of the Minds was just amazing. The idea of such a complete merging with another is so powerful. I love the way you described Sev's name "like the hiss of a snake." Oooo...I honestly get chills!
Lastly, I can't believe I forgot about the secret passageway from The Hog's Head into Hogwarts.
She would have been happy with him without the convention of being married. It was Severus that wanted and needed that for his own insecurities. He wanted his brand firmly on her and only marriage would have sufficed for him. He’s a very conservative guy in many ways. Dumbledore helped maneuver her into it by pushing it with the Ministry, because he knew that’s what Snape wanted. His whole thing with bringing her there in the first place was to give Severus Snape a reason to want to try to stay alive while fulfilling his spy mission and protecting Harry. Severus had lost that desire a long time ago, when Lily died. Albus was trying to give it back to him. He just didn’t know that he picked such a good candidate to help him do that!
Her family has had centuries of moving around and attempting to hide their heritage and trying to fit in with Muggles and not be noticed. On the other hand, they must be somewhat proud of that heritage too, or they wouldn’t do things like retain Morgana as a name for the eldest girl, passed down for all those centuries. And every so often you have a rebel in any family, who goes against the family grain…that was Welkin’s grandmother, who wrote down all the family secrets and practiced magic in secret, much to her strait-laced daughter’s (Welkin’s mother) chagrin. Welkin is like her grandmother…very independent and in your face about her beliefs, but also very accepting of people and ideas that are “different”.
I love the idea of joining physically and mentally during sex. How perfect would that be? I swing wildly between raunch and romance in this story anyway, because that’s the way I view both Severus and Welkin, raunchy but ultimately very romantic.
I only thought about the secret passageway myself when I was searching for a way to do something very important to the climax of the story in a believable way. It made sense that she might be offered a job singing there, since she has a good voice and a very lively manner, not to mention she’s pretty easy on the eyes. And she likes the place as a hangout too.
Do you see what I mean about Severus being the one who needs the convention of marriage?
That's why I so enjoy how Welkin's ebullient personality bumps up against Sev's more constrained one. They are such a good counterpoint to each other.
The class you took sounds interesting. Women have often been punished in real life as well as literature for stepping out of line and daring to be who they really are. It’s a shame.
Welkin thinks the whole Wizarding World seems a bit sexually repressed. She doesn’t understand it, since the Witches seem to have equality in every other way.
I have been coding and now have six more chapters up: Fears, Fate and Fantasies, Slytherin Is As Slytherin Does, Masquerade, Lucius and the Pendragon Plot, The Life Giver, and Welkin’s Study Date.
The Life Giver is a particularly pivotal chapter, as it lays out the extent of Welkin’s inherited gift.
As always, hope you enjoy…
I like how Welkin thinks the wizarding world is sexually repressed. It gives you a lot to work with! As usual, I forget that HP is a YA series, as I was about to say that JKR didn't provide much in the way of those kind of details!
Look forward to reading more....I'll see if I can hold off and save them as an Easter treat!
Yes...young adult books aren't exactly replete with sexuality, even though many young adults are.
Welkin hasn't really done that much in terms of sexual variety so far in this story. She's into role play and he's pretty good at it. As I say in one of your upcoming chapters. Welkin likes to be chased, and Snape likes it when he catches her...
Welkin is brave to allow Sev some back-door action! I was cringing to myself, considering his, um, dimensions, reading that chapter. What's also funny is just how "mainstream" anal sex is becoming. A few months back, Redbook magazine had an article with tips on it! What I didn't know is that back in the day, oral sex was considered taboo. When I was in high school in the mid-80's, it wasn't necessarily expected right away, but it was pretty much a given that it would happen sooner or later.
I'm glad you're having fun reading it - I know I am writing it!
Welkin wasn't so brave about the back-door action at the beginning was she? She was doing a bit of cringing herself due to those healthy dimensions of his. I liked the fact they made it into a competition. He reneged on the House points promise though. Shame on him!
Welkin's sentiments that she and Sev must have known each other from previous lifetimes were very touching. That is unabashedly romantic and a lovely thought.
Poor Sully--he's been in a couple dangerous situations now, but at least Welkin now knows how gifted she truly is. And Sev announcing that he's ready for another child! I got such a laugh at that. I can so see him announcing it like that, and Welkin taking extra precautions regarding her birth control.
And Hermione with Julien...that sounds promising, and I hope he's one of the good guys.
I don't remember animals liking Severus very much in the books, but I love the idea of Persephone being besotted with him. She's the perfect animal for him. Capricorn...sign of the goat...and also historically associated with dark things, like Satanism. LOL! Fits his Death Eater past.
Welkin believes in reincarnation. Severus doesn't necessarily, but he's probably not going to automatically discount it anymore. He tends to at least listen to Welkin's ideas even if he doesn't agree with them because he loves her so much. I loved what he said to her about it. It is terribly romantic.
I know - I treat poor Sully like a plot device. He'll be exhibiting some abilities of his own soon. Severus wanting another child even surprised me when I was writing it. What's his hurry? Does he think he's not going to be around that long? Has he suddenly decided that he likes kids after all. Sully is such a charmer and he does love his Da.
I haven't decided about Julien yet. Is he good or bad? Or is he "Severus light"? A little bit of both?
Talk about being a dunderhead! I completely forgot that a goat is the symbol for Capricorn! Nice touch!
There will be another child, but no, you and Severus will have to wait. Welkin will need to be able to hit the ground running when the war erupts and she needs to continue her studies for that. She's being the logical one this time. He'll keep occasionally "not nagging" her about it though, I suspect. Sully is awfully cute though. I'm a little apprehensive about Severus naming the next child himself...
I don't know how many more chapters there will be before the climax (no pun intended) of the story, but I imagine quite a lot since it's about two years away. I already have the ending basically planned, and it will be MOST dramatic I assure you.
I've started the next chapter, but keep getting sidetracked. I just got on Pottermore and have been playing around on there. Sorted Slytherin, yet again.
I can't tell you how much I love The Inevitable Tumble. There's something about their first time that is so delicious.
