Song Ji Hyo doesn't want to be called an actress?

Fanpup says...
I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Song Ji Hyo doesn't want to be called an actress? | allkpop.com
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Song Ji Hyo\'s Beauty View\' with 5urprise\'s Gong Myung. On the program, she said, "I thought even people like me, who don\'t have interest or talent at make up, would have fun watching this program."
SEE ALSO: allkpop Interview: Q&A with viral sensation Lydia Lee!
She also talked about being labeled a boyish actress and said, "If I act like an actress and if people treat me like one, I feel like my hands and feet are going to disappear from embarrassment. I\'m still burdened by the title of \'actor\'. I want to become an actor who acts sincerely and enjoys her job. I don\'t want to become an \'actress\'."
this probably makes more sense in Korean
ahh I see, it was a confusing reply lol, I responded on a new chat, not much sleep last night, and it\'s 6.30am anyways lets be friends, don\'t want to come across as being a total asshole lol
I thiiiink....(by korean standards) she meant, An "actor" in general  is acknowledged for their love and dedication to their craft. Where as an "actress" is known mostly for her popularity and beauty-not really about their acting skills.   In other words, an "actor" (male or female) is taken more seriously. While an "actress"(female actor) is just the pretty- no talent needed.
But what has that got to do with her not wanting to be treated as a celebrity ? I was replying to saibotnub, not disputing the specifics of being labeled actor or actress :) anyway thank you for taking time to explain baewoo :)
People usually term actor for males and actress for females. But AKP did a bad job at translating Song Ji Hyo\'s actual words as they always do. It makes more sense in Korean.
commonly actor refers to male and actress is female like policemen or policewomen but actor is also just the word for the profession. I don\'t understand the difference that Song Jihyo is trying to make but it probably has to do with how Korea treats their actresses and how they are expected to act and behave
It\'s not how the public expect them to behave. It\'s more of how actor/actresses expect themselves to behave in the public. A lot of actors/actresses, as you probably know, feel the need to act like they\'re someone extremely important and on a different level compared to regular citizens. But the term actor and actress, she\'s using makes more sense in Korean. 연기자 = actor, but is a unisex term in Korean. 여배우 = actress.
Check out the photos below! And there\'s just one photo.. :\'(
Jo Kwon doesn\'t want to be called a drag queen but that\'s what he is. So just accept it honey and move on.
She didn\'t say exactly that, that title is what is strange xD
She sounds confused, either that or the translation is somewhat off skew.
To put it simply, she does not want everyone to see/treat her as a "celebrity", but a hard worker, who enjoys her job, which is acting.
really is! read this facebook comment : Jae Yim - "So there\'s kinda little context her because this is a language difference. So in Korea, actor is 배우 (bae-woo). In America there\'s a clear distinction that actor means male and actress means female and that those are more than just jobs, they\'re also pronouns. In Korean "baewoo" is completely gender neutral. And while in English "actor" can mean both just a man or any performer in general, again, we use it more like a pronoun for males. In Korean, "baewoo" is treated more like a title as opposed to a gender pronoun. Jihyo is saying she doesn\'t want to be called a 여배우 (yeo baewoo) which directly translates to "female" actor. While we just say it means "actress", there is a clear difference. The "yeo" is a prefix for FEMALE and is added onto the title "actor". So that\'s what she is really saying. She\'s saying "I don\'t want to be called a female actor, I just want to be called an actor". Basically she wants the prefix dropped. More you learn!"
I said really is for that "translation is somewhat off skew." just clarifying
omg I done it again, replying to you with a new chat box !!! bollox to it, i\'m too tired and caffine is not waking me up fast enough !
This article was post by jennywill, hopefully next time Jenny will explain it better :D there, caffine started working and I have my sense of humour back !!!
Didn\'t understand a word of what she said but she looks gorgeous as usual! *.*
XD I still don\'t understand why she doesn\'t want to be called an actress!
She means that she doesn\'t want to act like or be seen as this "high and mighty" actress that\'s on top of this unreachable pedestal where people look up to her. A lot of actors/actresses have that "actor image" where they have to act like a celebrity or someone important.
Ok that makes more sense. But then if she doesn\'t want that, then it\'ll be kind of like how it\'s difficult for me to see idols as actors...not purposely b/c I don\'t want to see them as actors...it\'s just harder when I\'ve seen them as singers before
Well, it kind of goes both ways whether it\'s an idol or an actor/actress. Both are celebrities and there are idols who let the fame get to their head and feel the need to "be a celebrity" to the public.
