I would definately class it as cult to, and to answer your above vraag on its fan base I think there are so many reasons as to why it has such a large and active fan base.
Firstly I think aspects of the film appeal to side a wide audience, there is a little bit of something for everyone. The muziek also plays such an important role in the film, as the latest 'Glee' episode showed!
