1. Candice moved to Los Angeles when she was 16 years old and landed a record deal with Maverick Records, a label founded by Madonna and distributed by Warner Bros. Records.

“After I recorded the record they opened up the idea of auditioning and working towards getting into film and television as a way to market myself. I met a manager and I met with an agent and the more I started working the more I just really loved the job. So it just grew into its own thing and I never stopped and I love it more and more.” Source:

2. Remember when Caroline performed The Bangles’ “Eternal Flame” during TVD’s second season? That wasn’t the first time Candice has recorded a cover of an eighties song – her debut album,

, includes a cover of “Voices Carry” by ‘Til Tuesday. (Candice wrote or co-wrote the album’s other 11 songs.)

, was in a nineties cover band called Straight 2 Video with members of

6. She met her husband Joe King, guitarist for American rock band The Fray, at a Super Bowl event in 2011, but was “too chicken to give him my number, so Nina [Dobrev] did.” King proposed to Candice in Florence, Italy in May 2014, and they had a New Orleans wedding in October.

7. Candice appears in The Fray’s 2013 music video for “Love Don’t Die.” (That’s her kissing her husband-to-be.)

I also didn’t want to have a preconceived notion of who Caroline was when they were going to possibly write her in a different light. 11. She’s an extremely charitable person! Candice has given her support to a number of amazing causes including the It Gets Better Project, A Day Made Better, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and the Give Back Hollywood Foundation. Candice has also worked to raise awareness about Lyme disease, filming a PSA for Lymenaide (which has since dissolved) and handpicking a mumu for Show Me Your Mumu, with over half of the proceeds benefiting the Turn the Corner Foundation (now called the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance), an organization dedicated to raising awareness and education about Lyme disease and other related illnesses.

12. At one point, she had a tomato plant named Henry, but there has been no word about him since 2012. R.I.P., Henry?

13. She’s rooting for ‘Dark Caroline’! In an interview with Alloy Entertainment, she revealed that she would love the chance to explore her character’s dark nature. “I think that would be a really interesting transformation — to see a sunshiney character such as Caroline accept her bad side,” she said. “Everyone has good and evil inside of them, and it’s all about finding your own moral compass and achieving a balance in your ability to control both of those. You know? You don’t want to be so nice and so welcoming that you are just constantly taken advantage of, but you also don’t want to be so guarded and so defensiveness that you just shut everyone out.”
