Daisy Ridley: "I Woke Up Like This"
Daisy Ridley has taken aim at the dangers of over-editing photos on social media and their affect on self-esteem in an angry new Instagram post.
The Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress, 24, used the popular mobile app to post a close-up picture of herself wearing smokey-eye make-up and a faux-glow thanks to photo filters.
In the accompanying caption, she wrote, "I woke up like this" - a reference to Beyonce\'s song Flawless - and added the hashtags, "#nofilter #nomakeup".
She then went on to comment on the over-use of the technology, which helps young girls feel better about themselves.
"3 of these statements aren\'t true," she wrote. "Social media is great but also a bit scary \'cause what people post is the most filtered, most carefully chosen and cleverly edited moments of their lives. And self esteem is a huge issue for people around the world."
Daisy continued, "My skin isn\'t great so I don\'t post no make up selfies, much as I\'d like to; I have a trainer urging me on in workouts and don\'t include all the times I say \'I can\'t do it\' and I don\'t smile all the time but I like to share the pictures where I am."
Daisy admitted she doesn\'t have self-esteem issues, adding, "I actually do love myself, I try to think good thoughts always and am surrounded by the most wonderful people, so I\'m keeping it balanced (like the Force)."
This isn\'t the first time Daisy has spoken out about body positivity - last month (Mar16), she fired back at a critic who attacked her on social media for setting "unrealistic expectations" for young girls with her slender frame.
The breakout star responded on Instagram, writing, "\'Real women\' are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave. I am a \'real woman\' like every other woman in this world." (TD/WNNOW/KL)
