How did Gothel figure out that Rapunzel had escaped the tower?

I feel like I'm missing something here. I re-watched Tangled and I was quite confused around the part where Gothel had met Maximus in the forest. How did she figure out that Rapunzel left the tower just door seeing that Max had no rider. of was she just meer worried that Max's missing rider had found the tower? I just don't get how Gothel put this together.
How did Gothel figure out that Rapunzel had escaped the tower?

IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW. :D Well that's what I kinda figured, that she was just checking on Rapunzel and hadn't previously figured out that she had escaped. Thanks for clearin that up :)

That's true, it would be odd to see a random plalace horse pop up out of nowhere is the woods.

Good vraag I saw this last maand in the cinemas and Gothel ran to the tower into the secret passage and was freaking out when she saw that Rapunzel was gone. Maybe she knew that Rapunzel didn’t want fresh paint and she was probably worried about her so called daughter(who really is a princess).
