KataraLover picked Rapunzel being told she wasn't allowed to see the lights of leave the tower:
Well, she only knew Phillip for one minute, so I can't sympathize with her having to marry a stranger when she wanted to be with a stranger. Plus if Maleficent hadn't done anything they'd realize the person they're being forced to marry is the person they met and fell in love with. So I can't sympathize when I know this because thinks are going to end up just fine. If she was upset about living her whole life without her parents, having the pressure of being a princess on her shoulders, and leaving the life she once knew, I would sympathize with her. But she's just upset about Phillip.

Rapunzel on the other hand is being told she can't see the things that she thinks mean something. They appear every year on her birthday and only on her birthday, so of course they must mean something. I'd want to do the same as her. But being told that she can't see them is just heartbreaking.

I politely disagree with KataraLover, but I'm too tired to explain why.

She finally met someone at last and had a good time with him. Not only that, they fell in love (that's just how fairy tales work). Imagine after years of isolation you finally meet someone you instantly click with and then you're told your life is a lie, you have to take on a duty you never asked for, and on top of all that you can never see that person again because you have to marry a prince you may not love. I get emotionally attached to some people easily so I can kind of relate to this even if it was just about Phillip.

Rapunzel's is sad, but given that she ends up sneaking out after all and doesn't even try to look for whoever is sending the lights after all that fuss, I find it less sad. And it's just more disappointing-sad, not heartwrencing-sad.

^ Personally I don't see it that way. But you're obviously passionate about Aurora and saved audreybrooke the time of having to type basically the same thing. I may not agree but keep on promoting your opinion on Aurora because while I think some people over-think her a bit, other things are basically interpretation. So more power to ya.

While Aurora's situation is sad, I do agree with KL's arguments about Aurora. She doesn't really know Philip that well, and how is she to know that she won't end up liking the guy she's betrothed to. In addition we never really get to look into her mind and see exactly what she's upset about. Is it because of Philip? Is it because her whole life has been a lie? We never really get to know and that ambiguity weakens the scene in my opinion.

With Rapunzel however, this is the first exchange where she starts to recognize the tower for the prison it truly is. A home is supposed to be someplace safe. A refuge where you can be yourself and be your happiest. The recognition that the home you've come to depend on isn't what you think it is at all, is very sad to me because it's essentially you becoming homeless.

Both situation is very sad, but an arranged marriage? Nah, that's horrible.
