I agree with all of them.
Emma Watson was just there because she's a celebrity.
She doesn't need a new task to do. 1991 Belle was fine.
This one bugged me as a kid. I think fancy/princessly girls in live action movies almost always had a British accent for no reason when she wasn't even supposed to be British... to sound "better." If it is made in Britain that's fine to have that accent even when the movie set isn't Britain because it's their work. But most of these movies were American.

Emma could have done a way better job in this.
Emma's accent isn't fake, you ever seen Harry Potter? She's Hermione in that and they had a strict rule about only British people or British speaking people being in the movie.

Why is it so bad that she said she wasn't a princess? At the time she said that she really wasn't a princess, she was just a peasant girl inprisoned in the castle. She and Beast hadn't even fallen in love or gotten married yet. No one said anything about her saying that makes her better, she's just speaking the truth

This is the only one I agree with, although I don't remember it from the movie. Yeah, Emma's natural accent is English so...

And also, her acting was as wooden/lifeless as it was when she starred in the Harry Potter series. Ho-hum.

Yeah. It's my opinion, that Emma didn't "improve anything" that wasn't already there to begin with.

Me and my Mum didn’t like her playing Belle for this reason. But loved her as Hermione.

I really DISAGREE with all of these. I didn't really mind the not being a princess comment because she thought the Wardrobe was assuming she was a princess and was just correcting her. That is Emma's natural voice and it's not like the original tried to make sure all of the characters spoke with a French accent besides Lumiere, the Featherduster, and the Chef. I actually like that they made her an inventor because it shows more of why she's considered odd because women did read back then, since there was very little forms of entertainment back then when they weren't working. Her being ahead of her time with being an inventor shows more of why she's considered odd by everyone and her not conforming to the norm. I thought Emma Watson was absolutely PERFECTLY cast as Belle and her acting was amazing. To me, she was the good guy equivalent to Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil. Emma not only brought the character to life, did justice, and gave a great performance but she absolutely was Belle! Also, no I don't love Emma because she was Hermione, since I was NEVER a fan of Harry Potter. Sure, Emma's facial expressions were more subtle but as an introvert (Which Belle is supposed to be), I can say that A LOT of us act the same way she does in her voice and facial expressions. Besides, during the song Belle, she's supposed to be emotionless and look bored because that is the point of the song. If you want more details on why I think Emma was great as Belle, go check out my article of my Old vs New of Beauty and the Beast.

I don't agree with any of them (well, possibly the "I'm not a princess" one, given that I don't remember that scene). I enjoyed watching Emma as Belle, I quite liked how the storyline made her an inventor, and her accent was not forced, nor do I find it distracting or unnecessary.

I really don't understand the accent option. how is an English accent any more forced than any other accent? American company is irrelevent, if they want British actors it doesn't mean it's contrived or unnecessary. But God forbid not everything be American.
and I know it's a French setting (valid argument) but Belle didn't have a French accent in the original either; actually none of the main ones did except Lumiere, so it's the same thing (also 1991 Cogsworth sounded British too).

I just don't get how it's 'distracting' to hear British accents in this movie but it's somehow not distracting to hear American accents in the same French setting.

^Agree. I can't see how the accent is distracting at all - perhaps I could if Emma was putting on a fake accent that sounded terrible, but she's not. And as for unnecessary - everyone has an accent of some sort, so I don't understand how an accent can be called unnecessary.
