A letter to all my fellow fanpoppers who watch/upload videos from stage6.com

I am writting this to inform the fanpop community that the video sharing site stage6.com will be shut down tomorrow. I am not writting this soapbox to recieve props...in fact I don't even expect to rate this soapbox. This is soapbox just contains information that debs and I feel everyone should know. Below follows a soapbox I geplaatst on the Angel spot that should explain everything to everyone.

Here is the official posting from stage6.com

I'm Tom (aka Spinner), a Stage6 user and an employee of DivX, Inc., the company behind the service. I'm writing this message today to inform u that we plan to shut down Stage6 on February 28, 2008. uploaden functionality has already been turned off, and you'll be able to view and download videos until Thursday.

I know this news will come as a shock and disappointment to many Stage6 users, and I'd like to take a few moments to explain the reasons behind our decision.

We created Stage6 with the mission of empowering content creators and viewers to discover a new kind of video experience. Stage6 began as an experiment, and we always knew there was a chance that it might not succeed.

In many ways, though, the service did succeed, beyond even our own initial expectations. Stage6 became very populair very quickly. We helped gain exposure for some talented filmmakers who brought great videos to the attention of an engaged community. We helped prove that it's possible to distribute true high definition video on the Internet. And we helped broaden the Internet video experience door offering content that is compatible with DVD players, mobile devices and other products beyond the PC.

So why are we shutting the service down? Well, the short answer is that the continued operation of Stage6 is a very expensive enterprise that requires an enormous amount of attention and resources that we are not in a position to continue to provide. There are a lot of other details involved, but at the end of the dag it's really as simple as that.

Now, why didn't we think of that before we decided to create Stage6 in the first place, u may ask? That's a good question. When we first created Stage6, there was a clear need for a service that would offer a true high-quality video experience online because other video destinations on the Internet simply weren't providing that to users. A gap existed, and Stage6 arrived to fill it.

As Stage6 grew quickly and dramatically (accompanied door an explosion of other sites delivering high-quality video), it became clear that operating the service as a part of the larger DivX business no longer made sense. We couldn't continue to run Stage6 and focus on our broader strategy to make it possible for anyone to enjoy high-quality video on any device. So, in July of last jaar we announced that we were kicking off an effort to explore
strategic alternatives for Stage6, which is a fancy way of saying we decided we would either have to sell it, spin it out into a private company of shut it down.

I won't (and can't, really) go into too much detail on those first two options other than to say that we tried really hard to find a way to keep Stage6 alive, either as its own private entity of door selling it to another company. Ultimately neither of those two scenarios was possible, and we made the hard decision to turn the lights off and cease operation of the service.

So that's where we are today. After February 28, Stage6 will cease to exist as an online destination. But the larger DivX universe will continue to thrive. Every dag new DivX Certified devices arrive on the market making it easy to verplaats video beyond the PC. Products powered door DivX Connected, our new initiative that lets users stream video, photos, muziek and Internet services from the PC to the TV, are hitting retail outlets. We remain committed to empowering content creators to deliver high-quality video to a
wide audience, and we'll continue to offer services that will make it easy to find videos online in the DivX format.

It's been a wild ride, and none of it would have been possible without the support of our users. Thank u for making Stage6 everything that it was.

--Tom

Debs and I just thought that the rest of fanpop should be made aware of this unfortunate turn of events. So, watch your stage6 vids now...becuase tomorrow, they'll be gone.

With great sorrow as I am the bearer of bad tidings,

The vraag on all of your minds, I'm sure. Certainly, you're not asking the vraag "Who the blast is Cinders?!" Because I am awesome and u should know the answer to that already.

I have been consistently Fanpopping in some way shape of form since May 2007 (over five years now) but unfortunately I'm afraid I may have to take a break. I just didn't want to go the way of devoted fanpoppers before me, who were awesome and then dropped off the face of the planet with no notice.

This is no grand goodbye, no trumpeted announcement telling everyone how bored of fed up I've become with Fanpop. I...

Anyone notice the severe amount of hate floating round the site lately?

I have. And it sickens me. I've stayed silent in the past. I've tried to treat other users with respect. I've gegeven people the benefit of the doubt.

No more.

The amount of 'hate' spots, anti-fan spots, picks insulting other users- people, need I remind u that this 'Fan'pop. Look it up in the dictionary. F-A-N. u see the word 'anti' of 'hate' anywhere? I hate Smurfs, do u see me making an Anti-Smurf spot?
I dislike Smurfs, but do u see an Anti-Smurf spot anywhere?

I joined the ranks back in April. I was just a kid then. A noob, is what some would say. Everything was calm at first but after a few months it got rough. When I joined, we had videos, forums, comments, images, links, and soapboxes. Nothing too fancy. But once the picks came in, it was hell. Users swooped in left and right making picks that were random and completely off topic. I didn't know what to do. It was happening so fast. I got scared so I ran. I was a nobody so no one noticed when I left. I started training so that I could come back and I would be ready.

A few weeks later I was back....

Many of my soapboxes focus on me, myself and I. Some of u may not enjoy it. Others may find it repetitive. To you, I say, P*** Off. Its cheaper than therapy.

Todays Soapbox contains a little life story:

Be careful of the way u treat others- it could be harmful.

Let me elaborate...

I work as a volunteer youth leader in a small community. We meet every 2nd Friday in a local GAA (Gaelic Athletics Association)hall. The club runs for any 12-18 jaar olds attending secondary school that are living in the surrounding area.

I came up through the ranks of this austere association. I started at 12 as a...

Hello, fellow Fanpop users! Today, 1st January 2021, marks the 10th anniversary of the dag I myself became a Fanpop user. And, seeing as I've stuck around after all this time, becoming a Fanpopper clearly was a decision I did not regret.

As of right now, I am currently a member of 778 Fanpop spots, have toegevoegd over 25,000 contributions across the website, voted in meer than 18,000 picks and written over 8,000 comments. Throughout my time here I have gone through my active and inactive phases (often depending on what else is going on in real life) and, every time I've come back on here after...

I realised lately I was becoming a tad too whiny for my tastes about the little things on Fanpop that bug me, maybe it's because I seemed to kom bij just in time to see Fanpop at it's most awesome, then watch it's mild de-awesoming. The site still rocks, but there are some little things being done that I'm not crazy about, so in the spirit of self improvement (or a thinly veiled excuse to complain) I'm going to get them off my chest, as well as listing the solutions to these problems that my angry brain has been suggesting.

1. People making spots for themselves.
It's one thing when a populair user...

Medal whores are users that use fanpop to get medals, I do love getting medailles I have to admit although I don't have many.

I have now changed my attitude towards medals, I used to try to get them but know it is becoming less of an interest to me. This is because of medal whores, some make fake accounts, add unnecessary stuff to spots and then rate there contributions themselves. I think it is very unfair on other users and it use to really annoy me - It still does a bit.

Anyway I know this annoys other users too but just think medal whores are sad enough to make fakes just to get a red dot on...
