u know, I've often asked myself that question. No one in my family is even remotely religious, yet we celebrate Christmas.

I think it's because Christmas is just so deeply ingrained in our culture that it now exists independently of religious belief. Over the centuries Christmas has evolved, and taken on many different meanings for many different people.

In my case, Christmas is a time to celebrate family and tradition, and to toon our appreciation for our loved ones. And, to be honest, I think that's as good a reason as any.

I hope u all had a great Christmas. :)

Well the celebration of Christmas goes back to the birth of Jesus, but i consider myself an atheist and I still celebrate it.

I guess one of the reasons is that I use to be Christian, but also just because it brings the family closer together and it's a very happy time. It's the season of giving and I love to see others so full of joy when it comes around.
So I suppose I celebrate it just for the heck of it, and to see the happiness in others. =)

I never thought u had to be religious to celebrate a holiday. I am not religious in anyway but I celebrate Christmas. My family has for years, it's just a holiday, like celebrating a birthday of Easter. I just celebrate it cause I always have, there's really no reason.

Because I'm Unitarian Universalist.
So even though I'm atheist, we can celebrate anything from Christmas to the winter solstice to Hanukkah because we gather information from all religions.

For its original reason; the birth of Jesus Christ, who was sent down because there was literally no other way to keep us from Hell than for God to give His son as a sacrifice.

That sounds strange for the 'Christmas holiday cheer' we're supposed to have, but it's the truth. And ultimately, through Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, we're allowed everlasting life with God in Heaven. That is why my family celebrates Christmas. :)
