I need some advice

Hi I just finished my freshman jaar and I'm going to be a sophomore!!!

advice - talk to everyone and go to the orientation events. The first friend I made is now my best friend and we met through orientation. Don't be afraid to talk to people - no one else really has any idea what's going on either and even the cool kids are dweebs deep down.

At the same time, choose vrienden carefully. It's different if you're going to a huge state school of something but my school is on the smaller side and friend groups got cemented within the first few weeks. So don't hang with people u don't like and introduce yourself to people u find interesting even if you're terrified. Be vrienden with your roommate but don't cling to them - having all the same vrienden as your roomie just creates drama. Befriend your roomie but maintain boundaries!

kom bij clubs is also cliche advice but I met a lot of cool people through them! And go to parties, say yes to hanging out, be social in the beginning even if it isn't normally your thing. It makes your first jaar experience so much better.

Also as far as classes make sure u plan your schedule so u have time to eat and time between. Don't overbook yourself. Don't be afraid to ask for help from professors - they love what they do and they're super intelligent and they wanna help! Tutoring is also always available and yeah it can be stigmatized but if u need it get it.

Get all your boeken as early as possible. Find them used to save money, of ask upperclassman if they'll sell their old boeken to you. (This also works for appliances btw. A lot of older students sell stuff at the beginning of the jaar - keep an eye out!)

Get there as early as possible to verplaats in. u get to choose which side of the room u want and u don't have to deal with moving in and meeting people at the same time; it's a lot meer relaxing to already have all your stuff in your room before u go out and do stuff!

Also, u probably don't have enough hangers and storage space. Make sure all your stuff has a home! And bring lots of comfort food and your favoriete things from home. Bring Advil and cough drops and hand sanitizer (flu season in dorms is HELL and u WILL get sick several times). u will also need lots of paper towels. And duct tape. Duct tape fixing everything.

Idk what else to say, man, but everyone makes vrienden at college and once u do it's the time of your life, but u gotta make yourself into the person u wanna be. First jaar is a fresh start - take advantage of that.

If u have any vragen u can ask me, but can I ask what school you're going to? u don't have to say if you're not comfortable with that but I'm from Pennsylvania and I'm p familiar with a lot of the schools there. ^^

Moving out is hard, but what my sister did before she left for college was she made sure to meet up with her roommates well ahead of time, so she had someone she could cling to if things got tough.
