James Gunn addresses \'Guardians\' and \'Avengers\' crossover speculation

director James Gunn took to Facebook to clear up a few things regarding Marvel’s most prominent cinematic superteams—and whether they’ll ever team up to form an even larger, more super, team.

Just before he answered the crossover question, Gunn also said that “nobody is going to listen to any other part of this podcast, except for this one question.” That part proved ultimately true—Gunn stated in his Facebook post that articles and social media buzz had all misrepresented what he meant. He also elaborated a bit more as far as what’s been discussed between he and Marvel:

Regarding the bigger picture, we all agreed on one thing, and that was to keep huge chunks of the Guardians separate from the Marvel heroes of Earth, because they have a whole galaxy to explore. We wanted to use them as a way to make the MCU bigger, not smaller. We wanted to make sure they have their own mythos, as opposed to only one that is intertwined with the earthbound characters. They ARE connected, of course, but that connection would not be the purpose of their stories and fictional lives.

Really, Gunn just wishes that you would stop trying to bring everything back to 

, because it’s that sort of thinking that’s contrary to the entire spirit of 

Gunn also wishes that you would stop wondering about how Peter Quill’s Walkman hasn’t run out of batteries or worn through the tape yet, because in a film full of characters capable of faster-than-light travel and a raccoon-like alien gun fetishist it stands to reason that someone has figured out a logical solution to that problem.
