The first sign of Spencer's season 7 death came in the trailer which dropped at Comic Con last month. Spencer is seen standing up to someone saying that Alexandria should have taken a deal with the Saviors when they had the chance.
Spencer already blames Rick for the his parents' deaths. Now, with another victim coming from Rick's overconfidence and attack on the Saviors, Spencer is definitely questioning Rick's leadership more than ever. In the comics, Spencer despises Rick so much that he goes behind his back and offers to help Negan kill him. Negan doesn't like a liar or a cheat, so he slices Spencer's stomach with a knife and laughs as he finally finds the kid's guts.
We caught a glimpse of Maggie's grip on leadership at the Hilltop in Season 6 but going forward her position on the leadership ladder will only rise.
In the comics, Maggie emerges as a leader at the Hilltop as Gregory's cowardice becomes more transparent. As the community questions Gregory and Maggie clearly has the ability, skill, ruthlessness, level-headedness, and charisma to take on the role, the Hilltop folk start to get behind her.
Whether we see Maggie emerge as the leader in Season 7 or further down the line is to be seen.
Believe it or not, Dwight actually becomes one of the good guys.
Yes, you really hate him now and want him dead. It's a reasonable desire. On TV, the character killed Denise and shot Daryl. Those are two big strikes. However, in the comics, the character finds redemption and is largely troubled by his actions.
During the March To War, Dwight decides he will defect against Negan. The character offers Rick insight on the Saviors and their Sanctuary and even spares Rick's life on the battlefield at one point. There was always a big question mark regarding whether or not Dwight could be trusted but ultimately he proved his worth to Alexandria during the war.
A couple of characters make the ultimate sacrifice in the early stages of
The closest television counterpart to Holly is Sasha. When Abraham leaves Rosita in the comics, he moves on with Holly. Many suspect Sasha will go on to fill Michonne's relationship role with Ezekiel, but that is to be seen.
In any case, Holly drives a school bus into the Sanctuary in an effort to break down Negan's walls. She is taken hostage and returned to Alexandria with a bag over her head, only to revealed as being a walker and biting Denise. The moment will almost certainly be brought to television in one way or another, but which character plays the role of Holly is unknown.
A similar series of events went down in the first half of
's second season but we're still counting on it be adapted to
Ezekiel's tiger, first seen in the Comic Con trailer, also makes the ultimate sacrifice. While she is immune to the zombie virus, she is not immortal. The loyal cat sacrifices herself to save Ezekiel's life on the pages. We do hope Shiva lasts more than one season, though.
Perhaps the most iconic moment from The Walking Dead comics is Glenn's death. The shocking moment marked the changing of power in the apocalyptic world as Rick Grimes was knocked off of his high horse and bent to the will of Negan.
Many fans suspect the show will follow the comics, having Negan bash Glenn's skull to start things off while others have theories of their own. Some even suspect that Negan will kill more than one of our beloved survivors to start things off.
In any case, the comic books saw the brutal demise of Glenn in these moments - something so iconic and infamous that it would be shocking to stray from when adapted to television.

Honestly? In this case, Tara makes more sense to take Holly\'s place (though why she has to at all is beyond me, Holly in the books was a great character but I do love Tara). She lost Denise, and would be so pissed off that what book Holly did is totally something she would do.
