I thought as much and at the same time I almost forgotten about that :P And from what I can see, Sephiroth is actually trying to put an end to her plans and globaal, algemene trying to stop her from doing that

Not really. They're kinda helping each other in a way. Sephiroth lets his mother kill people, while he tries to obtain the powers of a god (The story is a lot harder to follow than I remember it :P)
