If anyone wants to know what an emulator is, it's a program that lets your computer "pretend" to be a video game console. That means you can play console-based video games on your PC :)

I'm emulating DOS, Atari 2600, TurboGrafx 16, NES, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Game Gear, Super NES, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1, Gameboy Advance & Nintendo DS. Whew! :)

I also have MAME... but I don't use it. I only installed it for the Kaillera plug-ins.

I only have Project 64 (emulates the Nintendo 64) but I'm probably going to get one for the PlayStation when I get round to it (and get a better computer).

It might just be me, but I think the PS1 emulators work just as well on my system as the N64 ones do. I was worried about it, since it sounded like I would need a better system than I have for it, but it turns out they work just fine. Of course, I haven't tried any huge games for it yet. But the smaller games are all working really well.

I USED to have a crudload of emulators on my PC (FCE Ultra, Project64, ePSXe, Kega Fusion, etc.), but I deleted them all because I got bored with them. :P I can run Chankast (Dreamcast emu) at full speed, but every GameCube and PS2 emulator will just make my computer fall on its knees. Let's just say that my PC is good for retro emu, but not good enough for last-gen emu.

BTW, astro, you can use those Kaillera plugins for ePSXe too. I never did try the online play, but I installed it and every time ePSXe would start up, the Kaillera plugin would start up with it.

It's not that the PS1's a more powerful system, it's just I don't think my computer can handle two emulators on the C drive at once. It's getting pretty full.....

@BlueBadger - I've got Kaillera set up on my SNES and NES emulators... but I haven't tried setting it up on my ePSXe yet. Or maybe it's just starting up like you said and I didn't notice it. XD Sometimes I'm totally behind on those kinds of things.

@knifewrench: Ahhh... I get you. All the games I have are murder on my space. GAH! Hard drive? What hard drive? -_- It wouldn't be so bad if I had, like, ANY self-control and could refrain from downloading every game in existence...

I'm much too scared to even try a next-gen emu on my system. XD Plus, I found the emulators, but can't seem to find any games. Wily bastages... XD

I don't think it's (morally) a good idea to emulate current-gen system. When it comes down to it, emulating is pirating, but we're not stealing money from the developers if the game isn't being produced any more (last-gen and before).

I get what you're saying. I really dislike the turn the emulation community has taken to actually making ROMs burnable and playable on the actual systems. You see that a lot in the Nintendo DS emu communities. No one is even emulating on their PC anymore, just burning the games to SD cards and playing 'em on their actual DS.

I do emulate DS on my PC, but it's not enough like having the real thing that it would really take the place of it. There's a lot of games that are pretty much unplayable on the emulators, but you can at least get a decent idea of if it's something you'd want to spend money on or not.

...not that I have any money to spend, to begin with XD

Oh, and I meant to say last-gen in my post up above about being afraid to run them. XD You'll have to forgive my brain farts here, I have a nasty flu and I think it's sizzling my brain a little bit 'round the edges XD

WinUAE (basically emulates all my old Amigas), ePSXe (Playstation), and gens (Sega Megadrive). I also have Frodo64 (Commodore 64) on my phone and NES and SNES emulators on my tablet.

I agree that it's wrong to emulate current-gen consoles and computers. The usual rule with emulators (as in, what makes them legal to use) is that you're only supposed to use emulators that you own the original console/computer of. A lot of emulators need add-ons from that machine anyway (for example, my Amiga emulator needed kickstarters from my old computers).

Obviously the idea is to be able to immortalise your oldschool games - not to take money from companies that still sell the machines!
