What is A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 about?

Season one followed the books pretty strictly in terms of structure. The first four books got two episodes each, totaling in eight episodes. It looks like season two will follow that same structure, but their upping to ante a little bit. Instead of four books, it will use five: The Austere Academy,The Ersatz Elevator,The Vile Village,The Hostile Hospital, and The Carnivorous Carnival.

The first season of the show featured a few familiar faces mixed with new ones! For starters, the mean Count Olaf is played by TV veteran Neil Patrick Harris. The Baudelaire orphans Violet, Klaus and Sunny are played by Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, and Presley Smith respectively.

What happened in A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 1 (and how does it end)?

During Season 1, the Baudelaire children became the Baudelaire orphans when their house was mysteriously burned down with their parents inside. Mother and Father left them with a giant fortune that the eldest daughter, Violet, will be able to use when she turns sixteen. They also left them in the care of a silly banker named Poe. First, they are placed in the hands of a distant family friend named Count Olaf, played by Neil Patrick Harris. But it turns out that Olaf is a villain who only seeks the fortune. Then, they head to their Uncle Monty’s home. Monty is actually super nice, but that kindness gets him killed by Olaf. The kids manage to escape his evil clutches and they move to their Aunt Josephine’s house. By now, we’ve established a pattern – Olaf kills her, too.

Finally, the children run away and end up at a mill. The middle child, Klaus, thinks they should get out of there immediately, but Violet doesn’t want to spend her whole life running. Everything changes after Olaf hypnotizes Klaus and almost kills the youngest daughter, Sunny. Meanwhile, the show has been following a mother and father who have been kidnapped and taken to Brazil. They finally arrive home just as the Baudelaires expect a visit at the mill. But it turns out that they aren’t the Baudelaire’s parents. They’re the parents of anonymous triplets. For anyone who’s read the book, you know where this is going.

The thing is, this isn’t even half the plot of the first season. We’ve covered all the major points, but there’s something sneaky going on in the background. It’s up to you, Lemony Snicket, and the Baudelaires to figure out what that is.

Should I read the A Series of Unfortunate Events books?

Knowing what happens in the books means you can anticipate certain things in the television show. However, the way Netflix has integrated the storylines still makes the show super exciting. That being said, you don’t need to read the books to have an enjoyable time. There are some things that are a little confusing for a first-time viewer, though. Even the biggest fans have had to re-read the books a couple times to fully understand the mysterious circumstances surrounding the children. So, if you like being surprised, totally opt out of reading the books for now. But the books are so good, we recommend reading them at some point. This goes for Series of Unfortunate Events fans of any age!

Part of what makes the series so confusing and fun is the narrator, Lemony Snicket. In the books, he is author who has the unfortunate duty to tell the story of the Baudelaire orphans. He is played by Patrick Warburton in the television show. Throughout the first season, he narrated the events as he ran away from an unknown evil.

What does Lemony Snicket think about A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix?

The character Lemony Snicket maintains that the story of the Baudelaire orphans is a bleak and depressing one that shouldn\'t be told. Daniel Handler, however, the real name of the books\' author, is very excited for the Netflix series.

"It’s been really fun," Handler told Entertainment Weekly. "Challenging, too, but fun. Netflix put together a bunch of people who were really enthusiastic, and I think that’s made all the difference."

What are the differences between A Series of Unfortunate Events movie and the Netflix show?

Well, the main plot of the movie and show are practically identical. They both follow the three orphans as they try to find a forever home. However, the movie\'s events only lead up to the third book (The Wide Window). That means the show is much further along that the movie.

Another major difference is the background plot line. The movie makes nearly no mention of Lemony Snicket, the parents, and the secrets they hid. The show, on the other hand, fully gives into it. Fans of the movie will love the show just as much, if not more!

Will there be A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3?

Yeah! With the success of the first season and the nature of the books, Netflix has already announced that they’re renewing it for a third season. With only four books left, there will probably only be eight episodes in the last season. It will follow The Slippery Slope, The Grim Grotto, The Penultimate Peril, and The End.

Daniel Handler also confirmed that they want to get to the third season as soon as possible. He told Entertainment Weekly in the same interview "given how quickly young actors age and change, we’re trying to film everything as quickly as possible."
