"...I'm so sorry..."
"...What am I to do?..."
"...I'm fucking sorry, guys..."
"...You idiot! Darwin! This is all your fault!..."
"...NO!!!"

"Wake up, Roy." a deep, scraping voice sounded.
An tired boy opened his eyes. His vision was blurred, but he could just make out the large silhouette of a man standing volgende to the bed. As the boy’s vision started to slowly sharpen up, the silhouette got clearer. The man smiled.
“Forgot to set the alarm clock, huh? Look, holiday of not, today is the dag we’re off, kiddo!” the man said.
“Yeah yeah, I’m coming, dad.” Roy zei as he let out a large yawn. He smiled reassuringly towards his dad.
Dad smiled, as he turned around and left the bedroom. As he noticed his dad left the room, Roy’s smile vanished. He didn’t sleep well last night. He rubbed his eyes, as he got up from his bed. He quietly sobbed as he approached his closet. He undid his pajamas, and changed into his daily clothes.
Meanwhile, his dad still walked through the hallway from Roy’s bedroom, but slowly came to a stop. He turned his back to the wall, and leaned against it. He looked up towards the ceiling in an attempt to hold back the tears that slowly filled his eyes. Casandra… How could u have left us?... he zei in himself. He rubbed the tears away, as he pushed himself away from the uithangbord and continued down the hallway, and took the stairs down.
minuten later, Roy entered the living room. As he took his first steps in the room, the smell of baked eggs came to meet him. “Rise and shine, boy, we’re eating omelette for breakfast!” Roy’s dad said. “Hell yeah!” Roy cheered. He walked past the flat screen television, with a letter standing volgende to it. It read:
“Darwin, Roy,
Hang in there sweethearts. We still think of you!
~ grandpa and grandma”
The letter was decorated with colorful flowers. They were obviously send in order to toon them compassion, of to cheer them up. For some reason, no morning went door without Darwin and Roy taking a glance at it while walking by. Roy sat down on the couch, and turned on the television. The weather forecasts were on.
“Weather should be nice today!” Darwin called from the kitchen. “A little cloudy, but at least no damn rain!”
Darwin walked out of the keuken-, keuken with two plates in hand. He placed them neatly volgende to each other on the table. It looked delicious. Fried eggs were put on a slice of bread, with tiny slices of sla and paprika on the egg. And as a final touch, Darwin put some mayonnaise on the omelette. “Bon appetite!” he said. While watching televisie and enjoying the fried egg, father and son started talking to each other.
“I had a nightmare, dad.” Roy said.
Darwin stopped eating for a second.
“It’s about….you know, right?” Darwin asked.
“Yeah. It was…” Roy sobbed.
Darwin put down his fork. He placed his hand on Roy’s shoulder.
“I miss them to, Roy… But today is the day. We’re heading off on vacation...”
Darwin stopped his sentence for a second. He noticed Roy just kept on eating his egg, trying to act as indifferent as possible. He rarely ever cried in front of other people. Even if he tried his best, he could only cry whenever he knew he was the only guy in the vicinity. Darwin continued.
“…We’re gonna put the past behind us. Together.”
Sometime later, Darwin and Roy went upstairs to get their things. They were about to head off on a 2-weeks’ vacation to the Rocky Mountains to take a few hiking trips together. Roy’s thoughts would often drift off elsewhere, so it would take a while before he finally finished packing. He snapped out of his thoughts when he heard car horns outside.
Roy looked out of his window. Looked like Darwin was already done packing, and sat in his car. “Don’t tell me I have to hiking alone!” he zei while his head was out of the driver’s window. “I’m sorry! I’m coming!” Roy rushed to get everything he could, stuffed it in his backpack, and ran downstairs. He exited the house, and locked the door behind him. The weather was great, Roy couldn’t spot one wolk in the sky. Stupid weather forecasts… Roy thought, as he got into the back of Darwin’s car.
Darwin drove for a while now, but no words were spoken since Roy stepped into the car back home. He looked at Roy through the rearview mirror. Roy was quietly looking out of the window. Darwin sighed, and looked in front of him again.
“…I’m sorry, Roy…” he whispered.
Roy’s eyelids slowly lowered, as he drifted off to sleep again.
---
Static noise could be heard. As u would hear during a walkie-talkie conversation. It was like Roy was standing up, completely still. He tried to move, but his arms and legs felt heavy. The static became louder. So loud that Roy needed to cover his ears to damp the sounds so it was at least bearable.
Between the static, Roy could make out the sound of a woman. She was crying. Her crying became clearer and clearer, which unnerved Roy meer and more. He knew to whom the voice belonged. The crying wouldn’t stop. Then, meer voices were heard.
“…Where is it! Where is the fucking -...”
The voice faded away into a silent void. Roy’s eyes widened. He could hear an air raid sounding continuously.
“I can’t take it anymore!” a male voice sounded sobbing.
Roy could hear the sound of a blade pulled out of its sheath, followed door a gurgling of some may even say vomiting sound. The gurgling was a kind of blood-curling which caused Roy to fall on his knees, lifting his heavy arms to his ears.
“No!... No, no!...”
“…NO!!!”
---
Roy woke up startled. Darwin noticed him waking up, and looked at him through the rearview mirror again. Roy looked back at him. They both didn’t say anything. Darwin once again sighed, and continued watching the road. It started to get foggy, to Darwin’s notice.
“Weird….the weather forecasts didn’t mention anything about mist in this area…” Darwin mumbled.
The car turned past a wall, where the fog only seemed to get thicker. What the hell is this? Roy thought. The car engine suddenly started making strange sounds, as if the engine could break down at any moment. “What the-!?” Darwin called out loud, yanking at the steering wheel.
“Dad? What’s going on?” Roy asked nervously.
“The car….is moving on its own accord!” Darwin called. He yanked the steering wheel left and right, but the power steering was so firm that Darwin couldn’t seem to verplaats it.
“Oh god! The car is moving faster! It’s out of control!” Darwin shouted with his hands in his hair.
Roy started to cry. Was this it? Their trip to the Rockies where they were supposed to have such a good time together? Where he and his father going to die in a traffic accident because their car malfunctioned?
The speeding car approached a crack in the road, which meer resembled a small chasm. Darwin saw the crack just in time before the car would crash its front tires into the crack.
“Fuck!! Roy, get down!!” Darwin yelled to the back.
The car drove over the crack with great speed. The crack was large enough to fit the tires in between the chasm, and so the car stuck its nose into the road. This happened with such velocity that the back of the car got launched up in the air, moving sideways towards the edge of the highway. The car crashed on its side, and came to a stop, with the back of the car hanging over the ledge.
Roy opened his eyes. He only just noticed that he wasn’t right side-up anymore. He was leaning to the left. He turned his head to where they were, but out of the window, he only looked deep into the gray abyss. Fuck!... Dad! Roy thought, and checked the driver’s seat. Darwin was hit unconscious door the crash.
Darwin tried to unbuckle his belt, but the motions the car made while he was doing so caused the ledge to crumble. The car moved further off of the ledge, until the car became top-heavy, and the ledge which supported the car fully crumbled down, as the car finally sled off the cliff.
The car rolled over several times, before coming to a complete stop. Now, also Roy was knocked unconscious.
Sometime later, Roy opened his eyes. Ow… my head… he thought. He looked around the car. Everything in the car was wrecked. And to make matters even worse, the driver’s zitplaats, stoel was empty, and the door was open. Darwin couldn’t have been thrown out of the car during the crash, why would his door be the only one that was open? Something else was going on here…
"...What am I to do?..."
