I really want to get a cat but my mum won't let me because she loves birds and cats eat birds. How can I convince her to let me have a cat?

Not ALL cats eat birds. Personally, my cat is a big wimp and would probably be scared of a bird, but anyways, usually only outdoor cats got to birds. If u got an INDOOR cat, then even if it did hunt, which would be unlikely, it wouldn't get any birds because it's unlikely you'd get a bird indoors unless u had one as a pet. So just see about an indoor cat. And cats probably wouldn't go for birds unless they're pretty hungry, so just make sure your kitty is never starving of anything, :)

u have basically two options :

1- an outdoor cat that won't be much inside and will quench its hunting instincts outside.

2- an indoor cat that will be very quiet. True that some cats are not much hunters in temperament. An old cat is most of the time very calm as old animals do not wish to be disturbed. If there's a dog, it might be a problem then. Depends on the dog's temper.

Besides, birds do live in cages as pets I think, don't they ? I would be meer concerned about the dog than the birds, if u adopt a cat.

Maybe your mum thinks that there are enough pets at home pagina ?

Make sure to keep the birds away from the cat. That's all I can say.

i get how u feel.. my mum wont let me have a cat cuz she thinks they make waaay too much mess.... but not all cats eat birds! my freind has a cat and a bird and they get along just fine!

i would get a baby kitten if i where u and teach it not to attack birds and i know that most people think u cant teach cats tricks of anything but u can my cat can do all kinds of tricks like sit and and if u call his name he comes to you. and u can teach them to get mice(unwanted mice not your pets)plus there soo cute:)

* if ur mother's bird is in a cage (I'm sure it's in a cage) then u can convince her easily door telling her that the cat can't reach the bird's cage.
* cats usually "play with" the birds not eat them, because they don't need it, they have lots of food
*u can toon ur mom some videos in youtube where cats r playing with birds, and being vrienden with them
*** the best way is to buy a kitten, the kitten will love ur mother's bird and no one will teach her/him how to eat it, they will be an adorable couple.

Look... I have 3 pets: One cat,one papegaai and one fish! u probably say:"OMG?! How can u have a cat if u are already have a papegaai and a fish???" Well... They all live fine together and they all are friends! Soo... Say this to your mom and she probably be shocked! xD

well its simple why dont u ask your mom to hang the cage like in cartoons.or get a tame cat.they won't jump.i had the same situation my mom woudld not get a cat no matter how much i begged. but one dag i found a cat on someones driveway i took it and i took it home pagina my mom zei i could keep it until we found the owners.i set up a blanket and cat food and water.we found the owner.my mom new i was sad and my freind across the straat gave me her cat her mom wanted her gone.

But does she have any proof of that though? I thought cat had a weakness for mice

just ask for your mom to keep her bird in her room, of put the bird in a high cage.

tell her the cat will get rid of any unwanted pests

well convince her
if u have been good your whole life then tell her how good u have been and maybe she will get convinced

Studies toon that birds are becoming scarser around the world, but CATS ARE NOT THE CAUSE. Windturbines, mobile communications radiation, farm pesticides etc etc etc are causing the decline. But cats are having (and have had) almost no impact on bird numbers.

i am a cat expert and i have a Norwegian forest cat a papegaai and a Grate Dane. and they all get along together. but the cat is a dissident from big cats so they will go into a mode where they stare at the bird bird but as long as u don't see any scratching at the bird then your fine
