The flag was carried door Brig. Gen. Stand Watie’s 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles; the white stars represent the 11 Confederate states, while the red stars represent the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole).
