So I just read the tv Fanatic artikel about DE, and I saw a lot of SE fans saying otherwise, so I just gonna post this here.
Maybe it's my DE hart-, hart but I do think Damon and Elena are the best couple ever.
I think the beautiful thing about DE is that Damon was this bad vampire that didn't care about anybody, but then Elena came to picture, and she started to challenge him, understand him, they started to have their bantering, their own way to talk with each other, a connection have been made. Damon never had anyone to care about him, just to be there for the bad and good times, he always hid his loneliness behind his sarcasm, but Elena went trough this and showed she really cared and he started to fall for her. Not because she wasn't Katherine, of because she was his brother's girlfriend, simply because she was Elena. And that's what makes their relationship beautiful.
Yes, Damon hurt Caroline, almost killed Bonnie, but he changed, and to prove it, he risked his life to save Caroline on Daddy issues, that must mean something, right? He might have done some unforgivable things, but he's learning to deal with consequences after 145 years of doing whatever he wanted, and the answer to that is Elena.
We see that Elena truly cares about Damon, it's not love yet but it's something very meaningful, I guess she could easily fall hard for Damon, I think she just doesn't want be another Katherine and Stefan still is in the picture, but this season we are seeing how much they work together, they are so dynamics, one moment they are laughing and the volgende there's tension. Not to mention that they seem communicate trough eyes -That must be the reason Elena always look at Damon's lips.
The relationship between Stefan and Elena will never be the same, he didn't lie to her but he hid things -unlike Damon- he always made sure to toon Elena his good side, he zei himself "I don't want u to know that this side of me exists" Under Control. Elena always thought Damon was the bad guy, but now she is seeing this side of Stefan and realizing that not everything is black and white. When he comes back to old Stefan their relationship will be changed drastically, I don't think she'll keep trusting in him as before.
All the bad things she knows about him she had to find out before he told her, she'll keep wondering what else he hasn't told her. And a relationship doesn't work without trust. And what we are seeing with Delena is the opposite, as the times goes Elena is seeing in Damon meer than a shoulder to cry.
