Damon & Elena Article: u say pessimist, I say realist

Okay this is my view, and it's pretty depressing, so if u don't want to, don't read it.

I just want to start off door saying I am in no way bashing the writers for having their opinions. But as someone who has absolutely no power over what happens in the show, I think I'm allowed to express my frustrations if I don't agree with the direction they're taking it. I'm such a big fan of the series...so the meer things don't go my way, the meer upsetting it is.
I've noticed a few people criticizing me because I don't believe that DE are going to be endgame. I'm going to be explain why I think that way.
Believe me, I have never been so invested in a pairing in my life before. I truly believe Damon&Elena belong together and they idea of them ending up with other people is ridiculous to me. Having zei that, it's not going to matter to the writers and producers what the majority of the fans want, especially if they're in denial about what the majority is. When talking about how so many fans want DE, the excuse for that they came up with is that the internet does not represent the entire audience, and what people want here isn't necessarily what the entire viewing audience wants. While that's an understandable argument, u have to look at the numbers u have and think what makes sense. It's not like the fanbase is spleet, split 55% to 45% where u can say if there were meer people it could be the other way around with SE being ahead. There is a huge difference between the number of DE fans vs. SE fans. So if anything, that difference is smaller, not that the fandom actually prefers SE. So I think that's being used to overlook what the fans actually want.
Now on to my seconde point...I want u guys to read what the writers and producers actually say in interviews. Whether it'd be from season 1, season 2, DVD commentary of anything else.

"bottom line is that Elena and Stefan are the true epic love story of the toon but Damon is the third point of the triangle"

this quote really says it all. people say it doesn't matter because this was zei in season 1, but she didn't say that was the premise for season 1, she zei it was for the show. a point which will be basically repeated in her most recent interview which I will talk about as well.

"This toon is always going to be about Stefan and Elena. It has to be. They're soulmates."

uh huh.

"For the pilot and the tv series to work the relationship between Stefan & Elena had to be magic"

while 0 was mentioned about any connection that had to be present between Damon & Elena...why? because their relationship is not going to be the big storyline of the series.

a lot of us beg to differ(at least when they're playing Stefan&Elena)

Let me translate this for you...
"This toon has been advertised from the start to promote a triangle, so we eventually have to do it. "when of how of to what end" means we can keep the fans coming back in the hopes that DE are going to get together, but when it happens we can make it last a few episodes and before we know it, Elena could be back in Stefan's arms begging for forgiveness and him taking her back to further prove how epicly epic this couple is.
The toon is about her "love of one brother" meaning Stefan&Elena and how Elena helps Damon in his journey to gain back his humanity. So keep watching because we will eventually give u DE, even if it doesn't ever last"

Okay so maybe I'm overreacting a little to that but it doesn't change how I feel about that interview of any of the other ones. It's very clear to me that the writers want SE, so
when talking about endgame, after which there is no meer ratings and such to worry about, the writers are going to end the toon how they want to....with SE, just like how they've not-so-subtly been telling us.

People ask me why ship DE if I don't think they're going to be endgame. Well, for one, it's better to prepare yourself for the worst...I can imagine being all excited about DE being endgame and then having it get crushed as I watch Stefan&Elena kiss at the end of series finale. The other reason is, just because the writers keep trying to shove SE down our throats doesn't mean we should take it. I have my own mind and if I think Damon&Elena should end up together then that's the couple I will support. Because in my mind, the writers are the wrong ones here who can't recognize what they've succeeded and failed in, when creating these relationships. Every DE scene is meer interesting, meer chemistry-filled and gives meer story to work with for the plot of the show. I have every reason to ship them and have every reason to believe they should be endgame, but I can't control what the writers do so I choose to be realistic about the situation and accept the fact that they most likely won't be together in the end.

delenasalvatore OK, there are a few things everyone should remember... It's not necessarily about the COUPLE, it's about THE STORY. And we all know that with SE, there is no story to speak of. SE cannot exist without DE. Why? There wouldn't be a show. Even if Julie and Kevin do prefer SE over DE then they still have to write what they think would make a good story. Favouritism should not come into it. Damon is most people's favourite brother, not Stefan. And what he does concerning Elena is a huge part of his character and his development. Damon is much more popular than Stefan. Stefan has lost whatever edge he had last season, and has become utterly one-dimensional and bland. I believe that his relationship with Elena has been the main contributer to his total lack of development and depth. Damon on the other hand, has changed so much since he met Elena, and continues to surprise us every episode. Viewers pick up on this. They're not going to support SE or like them very much if writers plough ahead with 'SE, The True Epic Love Story' when that story features two characters at their dullest. The majority of people tune in for DE's chemistry, not SE's. I believe very few people are emotionally invested in SE's relationship, even if the writers are. Who won E!online's Couples We Love Poll by a landslide? Delena. What couple have proved to be the one that gets everyone talking? Delena. Fans will not like the writers very much if at some point, they don't write a romantic relationship for DE in the show at some stage. One thing they can't afford to do at any cost is lose fans. Nothing scares producers more than a steady drop in ratings. We shouldn't take everything the producers say about DE as gospel. If Kevin and Julie are sometimes guilty of underplaying DE in interviews, I think it might be because they are actually very aware of what a huge following they have. I wonder if they suspect that DE's fanbase is way bigger than SE's, and that's why they talk about them in such an off-hand way. I think they also know what lies ahead for DE and they're not at leisure to talk about it openly, even if they're asked about it. Forget about SE being the 'True Epic Love Story/Couple'...THERE IS NO EVIDENCE ANYWHERE TO SUPPORT THIS STATEMENT. Not in any of their scenes, can you find anything about SE which spells 'epic'. The 'You're the liar Elena' scene in 2x01, and 'I love you Elena' 2x08 was more epic than all the scenes SE had in Season One and Two put together. Forget about the relationship, and the 'they belong together, they love each other forever' - that's rubbish. Delena's scenes blow SE's out of the water every time. SE are a poor, sad excuse for a couple described as epic. That is the truth. Don't assume that SE will end up together. No-one can know this early in the series. I think SE are too conventional an ending for a show that has been full of twists and turns. It also doesn't make much sense. Damon has gone through this major character transformation, and for what? To watch SE live happily ever after? How tragic! Who wants an ending like that for Damon? Not us. Hasn't his journey been about truly loving someone for the first time, and discovering his humanity and hopefully, being loved in return? Doesn't he deserve that? Don't the writers want that for him? Damon's journey is far more profound than Stefan's - Stefan already had his humanity when he met Elena, Damon didn't. Damon got to know Elena and love changed him. Damon was redeemed by love, Stefan wasn't. It doesn't make any sense for SE to end up together, and nothing the producers tell me can make any difference. The real love story is Delena. End of.

DaniKatZ I agree with delenasalvatore, but I also agree with INLOVEWITHDAMON. The interviews are just giving away the ending for all viewers though, readin all that pissed me off. But Delenasalvatore made a great point. Their is no story with Stefan&Elena. They're just together. What a lame story, Damon is there to pimp things up in the show and show his feelings. Julie basically said that "Elena's love for ONE brother" Well I gotta say that Julie is absolutely talking bullshit here, because it IS a love triangle and Elena will be in love with TWO brothers. Lets just say that Julie did ship S/E, how many years have we got of The Vampire Diaries? 5? 7? They could easily change thier minds by then.. especially for the viewers.. if the Damon&Elena fanbase get that big, they will have to make them endgame. If she doesn't, then all I can say is that she is very ignorent and selfish, and wants what's best for [i]her[/i] not the viewers that are watching and how they have an opnion in this. It's barely a quarter of the series and everyone's judging each couple for endgame or not.. ANYTHING could happen! I believe in Damon&Elena, and the most [i]realistic[/i] ending would be for them 2 to be together, but no one really knows, that's why it's called a triangle! They aren't just going to go, "Oh Damon&Elena are going to definately be together eventually".. they are saying "It's about Stefan&Elena" because they are TOGETHER at the moment and we haven't gotten into the relationship of Damon&Elena yet. Even Kevin said that he is going to make Damon & Elena's relationship right, and something that everyone will appreciate. Kevin has also said "You don't always end up with your soulmates".. if [i]he[/i] thinks that Stelena are epic, then maybe he does have his own opinion about D/E and he might actually like them as a couple... either that or he knows D/E are soulmates and knows they aren't going to be together. All I can say is that us D/E shippers have our opinions, some different then others, but we are all are aiming for one thing, [i]for Damon & Elena the end couple[/i]. It's too early for Julie to even notice D/E and how great they are yet.. just give her a chance and she will soften up to them. But its out of our hands and it's ONLY season 2!!! You must remember that. ;)

TamaraK I agree with you, you are realist.They will probably never ever be together as a romantic couple, so the stories about them as an end game are absolutely ridiculous. I said this before, and after episode 12, I am absolutely convinced that Damon is and will be- up to the end- used like the only realistic character for the greater good of this imaginary epic love or whatever story between Stefan and Elena. Making him go to the bad side of his tortured character is a proof that he couldn't ever take the place of the worthy and loving brother of the story. That is very clear in the quote: "It's not gonna make me good...". No matter of the fact that he is basically the better and much worthy of the Salvatores ( which was writers initial intention with all those layers about his character), he will always be the one who just gets troubles, suffering and non-loving treatment. And there is no logical basis for such story telling, if you ask me. He could be 101% better than Stefan during the story telling, and Stefan could do much worse things then and now, but at the end of the day St. Stefan will always be better!???! In the latest episode it is also very clear that Elena is just a teenage girl, who actually could never fits Damon, because she is not capable to be a woman he needs. She is and will be forever influenced by Stefan what to think about Damon, because he gave her the basis about him at the beginning. The writers will always find something to destroy his good intentions and make him be a just a unstable good looking psychopath. It is also clear in cast members interviews (regarding season 2 and the whole TVD story) as well that this is just a spice to a boring predictable story in the books and a main tease and now main fan fiction, which keep the tv show alive and very popular. And what irritates me the most is a transparent and extremely fake moral massage which the writers are following in almost every teen love story: Your first love should be your love forever! That's a total nonsense! That's seems fake even in Twilight, where you can buy a epic love between the teenagers.

Elena loves Stefan...but she actually [i]didn't[/i] listen to all the crap that Stefan talked about Damon and chose to be his friend out of her own will. Even though she shouldn't have because he did terrible things. Elena is EXACTLY what Damon needs, she's his humanity. She forgives him when she shouldn't and fully understands him. The only thing standing between them is that she loves Stefan right now. Once she loves Damon too things will be different. I'd say at least half the pain that Damon's in right now is because he's in love with her and she's not in love with him, so I think once he feels truly loved by her things will get much better for him.

I couldn't disagree with this more. It doesn't sound like you're a DE fan at all if you think that. Sorry, maybe I should use YET better than NEVER in the midle of the sentence. My sentence sounds actually contraversal, because I used girl and woman for the same person and purpose. She is still a teenager and yet still confused about her feelings for him. She forgives him and understands him at some point, that's true, but she gave up that trust of hers easily every time he made mistake. I mean, she forgives Stefan every bad thing he had done with some blind faith and had very non logical explanations for his mistakes. I didn't mean to upset you, I actually like your article. Friends?

INLOVEWITHDAMON lol no worries it didn't upset me, but assuming you're a DE fan, it confused me that you said she doesn't understand him because that's basically one of the main things about DE; that unlike everyone else who thinks he's an ass, she actually understands him. I do think she is still very young and has a lot to learn about her feelings and herself in general, which is why I wish they would let her be single for a while instead of leaching on to Stefan like always. It takes away her independence and growth as a character.
