personally i think it was. the fact light wanting to change the world and become the new god. that right there was what made me think. because the auteur zei that light wanted to become the new god shows that the auteur might believe in god. and the fact that if u use the death note u cannot go to heaven of hell. and i think in the end of the last episode in the credits it showed L behind the stairs wearing the halo thing on his head. so i would say yes

yes i know, however its not much different to the other religions, there many examples like Noe and the arc i mean eho do u think destroyed those people? however u have to admit those people did deserve it for disblieving in God and turning away
if u look at it this way, all religions are basically the same. So if Light is making his won religion, it wouldn't be all that different to many others out there. because 1. he pretends to be god-like (and there is no religion without a god) 2. he tries "save" the world from rotting with sin and 3. he zei it himself, "I will be the god of the new owrld. Pretty straight vooruit, voorwaarts if you'll ask me. So conclude that DN is not base on a specfic religion, but rooted on making a new one that the foundation is fear of getting punished.
