This was a tough choice between "Speak and Spell", "Music for the Masses" and "Black Celebration", for me. But I think "Black Celebration" is slightly more what I think of when I think of Depeche Mode than either of the other two.

I realize that I don't really know the Exciter album at all, though.

Violator was one of the first DM albums I bought when I started listening to them 10 years ago. It's one of those albums that I can listen to from start to finish without skipping over any tracks, and listen to it over and over without getting tired of it. It was a close call for me, though, because Playing the Angel is probably their best album since Violator.
