Overall, yes it is a good/helpful thing.

But inevitably, there are "medal whores" who are in the VRSOF who claim that they aren't doing it for the medals, but whatevs.

yeah initially the idea was a good one but in reality it just sucks :P

I was once joined to it but i disbaned it as you two said. Really I think just everyone should just rate at least 2 or 3 things a day when i see someone upload pictures or videos i try to rate at least 2 or 3 of there things then we wouldnt need corrupt things like that

Its a spot in which if you content isnt rated for like a month you put a link there and they will.

I picked "Yes" but I actually mean "Not anymore". It was originally a great place for people to post content that they had found that had not been rated, and every now and then people would post their own content and it wasn't a big deal. NOW, people mostly only post links to their own content. And, sure, most of the content posted is within the guidelines of the spot, but it isn't in the spirit of the spot, because it is now about people posting links to their own stuff, which means other people miss out.
Part of the problem has risen out of people in certain spots getting 10 of their friends to rate their own content, so people in that same spot who have not had their content rated post it to the VRSOF. So the medal whoring culture as a whole has turned the VRSOF into a legitimate form of medal whoring. I think it is a fairer form of medal whoring, because we have guidelines about what should and should not be rated by the VRSOF. But I know that lots of Fanpoppers still see it as a place for medal whores to congregate.
I personally tried to turn that around by suggesting that people be encouraged not to post links to their own content, but 1) I had very little support on that, and 2) it does penalise people who are not medal whores who just want to know if the content they are posting is good or not.
What annoys me most is that medal whoring would not be so rampant if people just rated properly in the first place. Rate what you view people!

Oh, and we have the one month guideline to allow fans to rate the content. For example, some content can sit in a spot for 3 weeks without someone rating it, and then all of a sudden a few people will visit the spot and rate content. It is always better if content is rated by fans of a spot, in their own time.

And I would also like to point out that the main objective of the VRSOF, in my opinion, is to actively promote rating on Fanpop. The VRSOF is about encouraging people to rate fairly and regularly, and to promote rating in the spots that they are active in.

It's a good concept, but I don't they go about it correctly.

It's great to encourage people to rate material.

But they're made it a point to pick out people who ask people to rate their contributions. Rating is rating. If your own material is rated, or someone elses.. I don't see the problem.

the spot was started origanially for those of us who find stuff that is sitting there for like close to a year with no rates not stuff that is just been added it was for those poor spots that are out in the deep regions of fanpop with like 6 fans and people add stuff but foget about it and it sits there unrated...that is the fanpop VRSOF original goal.

^ Exactly. It definitly isn't like that now, but that was the origninal goal. Some of us still participate in the spot in that way.
