Emma sat in the corner of the room, glaring at Kowalski. Thanks to his stupid invention, Ashley had disappeared. He wanted to see if he could combine two people's consciences into a single body, and since no one else volunteered, Emma and Ashley had to do it. He zei it would be fully reversible. But after the flash of light, Ashley disappeared into thin air. She closed her eyes and a tiny tear trickled down her face. Ash was her best friend, and who knew where he could be. A little vraag had been plaguing her mind for the past 30 minuten now.
Would she ever see him again?
The idea that she wouldn't was unthinkable. She had become so accustomed to his presence, that she never thought about what would happen if he was suddenly removed from the picture. of how she'd feel about it. Her stomach churned uncomfortably, and she sighed. He'll be fine, Skipper, Rico and Private will find him in no time. She tried to reassure herself. She felt as if she was meer worried than she should be. Sure, he was her best friend, but the thought of never seeing him again brought tears to her eyes. Although, she had found herself growing very fond of the Scottish pinguïn recently. This fondness was a strong feeling, and Emma had trouble comprehending it.
"Ow." Emma muttered, putting a flipper over her heart. She rubbed the area, as she felt a little twitch of pain. It soon turned into an ache, and she felt a little dizzy. The pain continued for a minuut of so, and Emma grew worried that it wouldn't go away. She glanced up at Kowalski. She didn't want to talk to him right now, but he was the medic. Feeling slightly worried, she stumbled to her feet, and made her way slowly toward the scientist.
"What is it Emma? You're not coming to hit me again are you?" Kowalski sighed, not looking up from his clipboard. "I've apologised, and I'm trying to figure out how to bring him back now." He explained, tapping his clipboard with his pencil.
"No, it's not that, it's something else." Emma replied, still rubbing near her heart. Kowlaski looked up, but didn't put his clipboard down.
"What is it?" He asked.
"I'm getting an ache-like pain around my heart, can u tale a look at it?" She asked, sitting on the cinder-block volgende to him. He nodded, and whipped out a stethoscope.
"When did this start?" He asked, putting the stethoscope on, and putting the end over Emma's heart.
"A few minuten ago." She replied.
"Hmm....." He began, writing a few things on his clipboard. "It doesn't seem to be pumping at it's usual rate." He muttered, meer to himself than Emma. He ran into his lab, and came back with a device that looked a bit like a camera, with an antennae.
"What's that?" Emma asked, a little worried.
"One of my inventions, The Revealer!" He proudly presented.
"The Revealer?" Emma asked, raising a brow.
"I'm still working on a name." He explained. "But this allows us to see body organs without any radiation, of having to operate." He added, looking proud. He pointed the device at Emma, and took a few pictures of her heart. He studied these for a few minutes, before breaking the silence with a loud 'Aha!' "Here's the problem." He began, tonen Emma a picture. She stared at it, and noticed a small blob in her heart. "It seems as if a foreign object has clogged in their somehow." Kowalski noted.
"Can u get it out?" Emma asked, looking scared.
"Hmm, I should be be able to, but this could be an excellent opportunity to test my new invention!" He realised, running excitedly to his lab, and running back with a few pieces of equipment. Emma frowned at him, unimpressed with his idea.
"You've already tested your 'latest invention' she reminded him, making air quotes with her flippers, her mind returning to Ashley.
"Well, this is a 'slightly earlier invention then.'" He shot back, also using air quotes. Emma stifled back a growl. She got on with Kowalski most of the time, but since they were both stubborn, they did clash every now and again.
"So, what is this thing then?" Emma sighed, giving up.
"Well, these are helmets, and this device makes a tiny robotic version of yourself, which looks and feels exactly like you, so u eat the robotic version, then wear the helmet, an u can control u robot." He explained proudly. "The robot first comes in a pill form, then it materializes in your stomach, and I'll be watching your progress on this screen, and I can direct u around the body. u won't feel your pain when you're controlling the robot, as it is perfectly functional" He added. Tom, who had been watching all of this silently, suddenly piped up.
"So, you're getting ideas from Futurama now?" He asked with a smirk. Kowalski shot him a glare, and handed Emma the pill. Emma narrowed her eyes at it. She didn't trust Kowalski's inventions right now, but she wanted to get rid of this pain, so she could get back to worrying about Ashley. She swallowed the pill, and grabbed the helmet. Kowalski gave her the green light, and she put it on.
A spilt seconde later, she found herself in what looked like a fleshy roze cave. She was near a small green pool, which she assumed was acid, that her stomach was using.
"Okay, so, where's the heart?" She muttered.
"You need to head north of here Emma." Kowalski told her through a walkie-talkie she just realised she was holding.
"Affirmitave." Emma replied, taking what she guess was the North route.
"At you're current pace, u should reach the hart-, hart in around 5 minutes." Kowalski explained, guiding her through the various blood vessels. "Be sure not to get caught in the arteries, the pressure in them will send u to your feet if u aren't careful." He warned.
"Aha." Emma acknowledged, walking slightly quicker. Even now, walking around inside her own body, she couldn't help but think of Ashley. Where was he? Was he okay? Would she ever see his face again? She wiped the forming tears from her eyes, and continued in silence, only letting out a few noises of understanding as Kowalski guided her. She eventually came to her heart, and she let out a gasp when she saw what, of rather who was the problem. There, stuck knee deep in her heart, was Ashley. "A-Ashley?!" She choked, staring at the Scottish pinguïn in shock.
"Oh lass, thank goodness u found me!" He exclaimed, grinning at gratefully Emma. "Er, where exactly are we?"
"Inside my body." She replied grabbing Ashley's flippers, pulling him out carefully. Her hart-, hart then went back to it's normal shape, and continued as if nothing had happened.
"What, how?" He asked, looking at Emma curiously.
"Kowalski." Emma explained. Ashley's beak turned up slightly at the corners, knowing exactly what Emma meant.
"I- I thought u guys were never gonna find me." He admitted, glancing down at their flippers, which were still intertwined. "I'm so sorry, I was walking, and I fell, I was-" Ashley was cut off as Emma hugged him tightly.
"You don't need to explain anything." She whispered, her eyes closed in happiness. Though slightly surprised, Ashley hugged her back, smiling warmly at her. "I'm just glad you're okay, I thought.. I wasn't gonna see u again."
"You'll never have to worry about that Em, I'll always be here." He promised, patting Emma's back comfortingly. Emma's face flushed at this, and she pulled away, remembering where she was. "So, how do we get out?" Ashley asked. Emma glanced down at the walkie-talkie and blushed, realising Kowalski had just heard the whole thing.
"Emma, just hold onto Ashley, and I'll take the helm off of you, and your robotic self will dissolve in your bloodstream." Kowalski explained. Emma held onto Ashley again, and the two closed their eyes. When they opened them, they were back in the HQ. Emma let out a relieved sigh, and grinned at her best friend. She thanked Kowalski, then her and Ashley went to celebrate with chocolate. Despite things being back to normal, Emma couldn't help but think of those 'strong feelings' she has been contemplating. She was beginning to understand what they were. She smiled warmly at her best friend, and blushed slightly.
It would be a long time before they volunteered for any experiments again.
