‘Frozen’ queen Elsa sparks a trend in baby names

has made an international instant star out of misunderstood ice queen, Elsa, and now her name seems to be catching on!
The character’s name is quickly gaining popularity among new parents, according to a new report compiled by BabyCentre.
According to the popular U.K. parenting website, the name Elsa has broken into their list of Top 100 baby names for the first time ever and is currently sitting at number 88. The latest bout of statistics from the website also notes that the name Elsa seems to be particularly popular in Sweden, where it currently ranks as the third most popular baby name for girls.
Managing Editor for BabyCentre, Sarah Barrett was quoted in the article and spoke of the rise in popularity of the name Elsa. “Whilst the film’s popular heroine is called Anna, Elsa offers a more unique name and is also a strong female role model,” said Barrett. “Elsa is the ice queen but she sees the error of her ways and is shown to be a sensitive but strong and confident leader.”
Disney U.K.’s Vice President, Anna Hill also chimed in saying the company is “delighted that Elsa is a popular name for babies.”
“It’s lovely to hear that for many families, it is actually their siblings who have chosen it. We’ve been bowled over by the response to
— it’s now the fifth biggest film of all time and families are really connecting with Elsa’s fight to overcome her fears and the powerful strength of the family bond which has helped her to achieve this.”
But while Disney’s Elsa is the latest pop culture character to spark a trend, this isn’t the first time popular characters from television and film have inspired new parents to name their newborns after them.
2012 saw a spike in babies being named after popular
characters Khaleesi and Arya. In 2011, the Social Security Administration revealed that
-inspired names reigned supreme when Jacob and Isabella both ranked among the top five most popular baby names for boys and girls, respectively.

Just when you thought the hype finally died.
Id say it should dye down by christmas..just in time for the christmas special to air on disney channel and then give it a few months it will be forgotten about…until the musical hits broadway in the spring then the sequel will be announced in the summer and of course OUAT will keep it going and then there’s the inevitable addition of the 2 into the disney princesses…. by then the sequel will be out and we can start all over again until it either gets better and people stop complaining about it sticking around because they find the actually like it or it dies a slow and painful death.
As long as no one steals my son’s future name, “Tyrion Jon *insert my last name” and my daughters “Cersei Arya *insert my last name”
I like Tyrion (kind of. I can at least see why people like him), Jon, and Arya (I’d consider naming a child that if I wasn’t sure people would pronounce it “Are ya”) but Cersei? I really don’t understand why people like that character. She has no redeeming qualities.
We had always planed to call our daughter Elsie and when we told people her name after she was born all I got was “did you get that from Frozen” Its not even the same name and people still comment so we have no hope
Not sure if this is Hypable’s error, or just a result of BabyCentre’s crack reporting, but the popularity of the name Elsa in Sweden is probably not a result of Frozen’s popularity. It’s been one of the most common names in the country for years. Since 2008, it’s never once been out of the top 10.
Wow, after being called Lisa for twenty years people might start to hear what I’m saying now :)
