So NCW and Sophie are the only actors who don’t deserve nomination?
Kit! Maisie! Emilia! Lena (she’s got to win)!
Great to see Maisie finally get recognition. She should have been nominated for Season 2 and 4
Kit and Maisie!! Miguel! Well deserved nominations for everybody.
Ha, I hadn’t seen the nomination for Gay of Thrones. That’s fantastic!
I am so happy for Maisie. In that category, it’s b/w her and Lena. Great news all around!
I hope Lena wins! I would put Sophie instead of Emilia and Liam instead of Peter. Congrats to Kit for his hard work this year 🙂
Wow, so happy for them all but especially happy to see newcomers Kit and Maisie!
Loving all the noms, but no love for Ramin Djawadi for his score?? WTF??
So NCW and Sophie are the only actors who don’t deserve nomination?
Sophie was phenomenal this year, as was NCW. I don’t think Emilia is a bad actress but Sophie was leaaaaaaagues above her and well in league with Maisie. Oh well.
Wow, so little for The Winds of Winter? I thought for sure it’d get recognition for score.
People…please try to be happy for what this great show has achieved, not what you wanted to see and don’t. More nominations than any other show out there and for great reason and they will win most all of them. Nothing to hang a head about in the least.
Mozel to all the actors, writers, directors, editors, designers and more for the excellent season of Game of Thrones. All the best to all of you on the big night.
She submitted herself., NCW and Sophie are the only actors that HBO submitts every year and will never get nominated as it seems. Peter and Emilia were better than them this season……
Dinklage could nap through the season and get nominated at this point! But it’s so good to see other actors break through like Kit and Maisie. Sophie was completely snubbed and so was Ramin. And I still think D&D should’ve submitted E10 for writing. Otherwise, congrats to everyone. Since they start prod in Sept, I assume this date will be built into the schedule.
Miguel will win for sure ..vfx team will also win ..
And people will be complaining like always about peter and emilia .
Peter had two great scenes with dragons and Emilia and same goes for Emilia too..
Fantastic to see Kit, Maisie and Miguel Sapochnik finally get a nod!
CONGRATULATIONS GOT!!! Wow, what a load of noms.
Obviously some names not mentioned, but I’m so, so thrilled for Kit. About time. He puts his heart and soul into this show and has become almost synonymous with it. So happy he’s getting some awards recognition.
Also pleased to see Miguel Sapochnik, one of the breakthrough surprises this season. Well done–please come back for S8!
This! I’m honestly so happy for Maisie though, it was kind of unexpected haha.
That would be bizarre. Bryan Cogman was taken by surprise by his non nomination, too.
Nina Gold seriously needs to win. Seems like every movie I see that’s perfectly cast, I see her name in the credits.
Happy for Max Von Sydow … after such a long career, I hope he wins. I’m glad about Miguel but also about Jack Bender because The Door was a perfect episode. Surprise surprise with Maisie. I hope Lena wins though. I was expecting Kit’s nomination, but I haven’t seen other shows to know if he has a chance. I don’t think Emilia and Peter had a good season to win. Is there a music category????
Last time they took several slots in the cinematography category and split their own vote. Here there’s only one (I’m trying to remember what about “Home” would have made it stand out in that regard), so their odds are much better.
I’m not surprised that Maisie would eventually get a nomination; I am surprised that this was the year it happened.
I’m glad Kit got nominated, particularly since he didn’t get one last year.
Peter really did not deserve a nomination this year. He had barely anything to do, and I can only think of two scenes that stand out (the one with the dragons and getting named Hand). That’s totally a case of the academy voting on autopilot for a past nominee.
Liam wasn’t submitted for consideration, so he couldn’t be nominated.
I expected the usual suspects (Peter, Lena, and Emilia) to get nominated but did not think Kit and Maisie would have a shot (mainly because the Academy tends to be conservative and nominates the usual ones). So happy they broke through finally!
The Emilia and Peter complaining doesn’t suprise me at all, it has become a yearly tradition at this point….
On more happy thoughts. I want to congratulate everyone involved in this fantastic production!
On a funnier note, seeing Maisie on twitter freaking out, is incredible amusing. Well done and hope she does well!!
Well, Sophie has improved a lot, but I felt confused about some of her reactions … so she didn’t deserve it as much as Lena and Maisie. I’m surprise about Emilia though … she didn’t have a great season.
I’m so so happy I love this show and all the cast and crew
I am rooting for Lena and kit for their roles but so so so happy to see Maisie get in there as well
I don’t know- he wasn’t on the list of Emmy submissions- but maybe the Emmys handles their music categories differently? http://watchersonthewall.com/game-thrones-makes-2016-emmy-submissions-reveals-final-synopses/
So happy that the show received all these noms – Gods know they deserve them!
Thought we were done with Downton Abbey – geez
And most of all – why is it that Ramin Djwaldi is never nominated?? There has to be some reason
Wow!!! So many nominations!!! So very happy for everyone involved in the show! The list seemed to go on forever when I was reading it! 😀 Congrats to *ALL* the nominees!
That is an incredible haul. Even more than I dared to hope for. Some of these nods were expected (and deservingly so), but some were surprises that I’d dared to dream about, but wasn’t banking on. When I scrolled through the nomination list and saw the names, I stood up out of my chair, pumped my fist, and shouted “HELL YES!”
I’m particularly thrilled for Kit Harington and Maisie Williams, who managed to get recognized in the Supporting Actor and Actress races without bumping out any of their co-stars. Also ecstatic for Miguel Sapochnik and Jack Bender, who were indeed the directorial standouts of the year. I was expecting the nods for Peter, Lena, Emilia, Max von Sydow, David Benioff and Dan Weiss for writing, most of the crew for their below-the-line work, and of course, Outstanding Drama Series for the sixth consecutive year. But that doesn’t make those nominations any less gratifying! Supremely well-deserved honors, one and all.
I do imagine that having so many acting nominees may limit the chances of any one performer to win, but we’ll worry about that later. As it stands, with so much support across the board, we can safely entertain the idea that Game of Thrones will defend its crown and win Outstanding Drama Series for the second consecutive year.
And if I can step outside the Game of Thrones bubble for a moment, I’m thrilled at the recognition for my second-favorite show on television – The Americans. Matthew Rhys, Keri Russell, and Outstanding Drama Series – all deserving nods, and long overdue.
Really really pleased on Maisie’s behalf. I don’t think she’ll get the win, but this early in her career it doesn’t really matter that much. She won’t lack for offers of good parts once GoT is over. As silly as she is on social media, it’s clear that she takes her work seriously, applies herself and has oodles of natural talent.
Also, for trivia fans, Maisie is the youngest Emmy nominee (at least in a dramatic category; I haven’t checked the comedy ones) since Kellie Martin, who was nominated for Supporting Actress for
Sadly I don’t see Maisie winning it. She’s a great actress but this year she didn’t get very strong material to work with unfortunately, especially when taken into consideration the competition she has to deal with.
However Kit had really strong material this year, but he’s got some seriously tough as nails competition too. If Peter wins it again I’ll laugh.
Anyway, I’m hoping next year is even better and we get NCW, Liam, Carice and Sophie getting their nods, they are WELL overdue at this point. It’s great progress to see Kit and Maisie getting their nods, so I’m confident. Plus NCW should have some killer material next year.
YES KIT AND MAISIE! Congratulations to everyone involved. Best show ever!
But I bet Maggie Smith will take it w/ all these got actresses splitting the vote.
I’ve been amazed by this girl since S1E1. One of the best finds of GOT. She’ll definitely go far.
Wow, so little for The Winds of Winter? I thought for sure it’d get recognition for score.
I agree. I’m such a huge fan of Ramin’s work on this series. I think it’s a shame he didn’t get a nod for scoring because “Light of the Seven” is a brilliant, haunting and evocative piece of music.
I think this is going to be another record breaking year for GOT ..I already count 13 awards that is for certain GOT will get..
Any nomination about BoB and Door and home will get a win .. Add casting and drama and kit ..
We will be getting most awards for a single series
I like all those actors in the Best Supporting Actor category, although I haven’t seen Ray Donovan. Glad for Kit Harrington. I think Ben Mendelsohn deserves it, however.
I’m so happy for first-time nominees, Kit & Maisie!!!! And Miguel Sapochnik!!!
I know Kit’s known more for swinging the sword, but he did have some acting moments this season that were really good. I loved his convo with Davos after his resurrection and the argument with Sansa on the eve of BotB. Good luck, Kit!!
Maisie has always been great and I’m sooo glad she finally got recognized for it. Like Kit, her role is very physical but when she has her quiet moments, she shines and I’m reminded of what a great young actress she is. Good luck, Maisie!!
I don’t watch much scripted TV, so I can’t say if any of the GoT nominees are more deserving than others or if they will/should win. So, I’ll just offer a WOOHOO and congratulations to
the GoT actors and crew on their nominations. I will definitely be watching in September.
I love Liam Cunningham and have for years. His performances this year were stellar and deserve recognition.
Do you remember off hand (and I can look it up later certainly but only so much skipping out on work I can do at the moment 🙂 ) if he has ever been nominated? I have to say his scoring is amazing and it is kind of stunning if he hasn’t been. Just seems the GoT music is leaps and bounds ahead of everything out there. Thanks!
Congratulations GoT! Especially Kit and Maisie for their first nomination! Amazing!
Happy for Kit and Maisie, also for Miguel and Bender (the deserving episodes got nominated unlike last time where Hardhome got snubbed while UUU got nominated).
Really wanted NCW to get nominated instead of Dinklage. But then, despite most of Tyrion stuff this season being filler, Dinklage shined when he was given good material for a couple of episodes – the dragon scene and the Hand of the Queen scene.
However, do these multiple nominations mean the chances of GoT actors winning will be reduced? I don’t know the voting process, but last year it was said that Emilia’s nomination along with Lena caused many GoT fans to vote for her instead of Lena and that’s one of the reasons Lena lost a well-deserving Emmy.
I agree about Kit. However, as much as I love Maisie, I don’t think she earned the nomination this year. It should have gone to Sophie.
As for Miguel … I’ve been for him ever since BotB … the directing was stellar. I’m still thinking “Miguel FTW! (for the win)”
I still feel D& D should have submitted Winds of winter for writing .. Maybe door or home if not Winds of winter.
I wish they had the foresight to submit Bella Ramsey for guest actress. I think she would have had a great shot.
Also very happy for The Americans, Mr Robot and Tatiana Maslany (even though Orphan Black isn’t very good anymore – she’s still great)
Me too I was refreshing the emmy website and complainingto my brother I know they won’t nominate him it will probably be Peter like always and then my brother was like well there he is.And Maisie was a complete surprise too but I’m so happy for them
Sam: I expected the usual suspects (Peter, Lena, and Emilia) to get nominated but did not think Kit and Maisie would have a shot (mainly because the Academy tends to be conservative and nominates the usual ones). So happy they broke through finally!
I am pleasantly surprised that the Emmy’s this year came up with so many new nominations overall. They finally came out of their tendency to keep nominating the same stuff over and over again. Nominations for the Americans, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Master of none , and so many other new noms , and all of them deserving.
Yeah I think the votes will be split, especially in the actress category. Peter will get an award just for sleepwalking at this point.
Happy for Kit and Maisie, but Sophie should have gotten a nomination, she was the best alongside Lena this year.
It’s so cute–she’s so genuinely surprised and excited ❤️ Lovely to see the support between the GOT cast & crew. Bryan Cogman just tweeted this about Kit:
Kit! KIT. HE LIVES! Hardest working sonofabitch I know. So proud. #Emmys
Victoria of the Vale: I agree about Kit.However, as much as I love Maisie, I don’t think she earned the nomination this year.It should have gone to Sophie.
Well there is an element of fan favorite that comes into play no matter who deserves it. It’s why Dinklage is nominated every year. And it’s why I think Maisie actually has a chance here vs. Lena, who is obviously a far more accomplished actress.
As for Miguel … I’ve been for him ever since BotB … the directing was stellar.I’m still thinking “Miguel FTW! (for the win)”
Do you think she did better than Emilia, I thought that Maisies nomination is long overdue. Sophie should have gotten the spot instead of Emilia. And NCW above Dinklage, he didnt have that many good scenes this year.
Agreed!! The music has been unbelievable and so much a part of the show! What could be the reason for such lack of judgment??
You guys know that Maisie getting a nom had nothing to do with Sophie not getting one, right? Stop being salty towards Maisie when it’s been a long time coming.
That’s sweet. He lives indeed! The Kit in the North! 🙂
I send my congratulations out by raven to all of the GoT cast and crew for such excellent work!
I’m beyond thrilled for Maisie though. She’s been fantastic from her first scene as a little girl in the very first episode. I’ve always felt it was her age and lack of enough material holding her back, but she’s never outdone in a scene. Filming as a 14 year old with a guy like Charles Dance and nailing all of it says a lot about her talent. She has such a range and you can easily identify every emotion just by the expression on her face. That sets her apart from a lot of actors. So, an extra big grats for Maisie for the nomination!
Very happy for Kit Harington, he has carried several episodes as a leading man for the last couple of seasons. No other actor probably puts more hours than he does and the character he plays is not an easy one to play. There were so many who criticize him for being limited early on not understanding that the character he plays is internalized and somber. Kit has always done great, I think he always understood that Jon was on journey and he had to unravel him slowly, he had to let him blossom and he did.
As for Sophie not getting a nod, remember this is the same organization that has failed in the past to nominate Tatiana Maslany. How do you not nominate Tatiana Maslany every year?
Anybody else find Anthony Anderson’s handling of the nomination announcements kind of embarrassing? Since when are the presenters supposed to telegraph so blatantly which nominees they’re rooting for? Maybe he was channeling his show persona (just guessing, I haven’t seen it) but it seemed really unprofessional to me. Hope they don’t give him that gig again.
Pretty fantastic. Kudos to all that were nominated and good luck! Would have liked Ian McShane nominated – give more weight for an actual Deadwood movie!
I am still floored by how amazing Tobias Menzies was in his scene with NCW. Watched a behind the scene feature where director Mark Mylod states that he did hardly anything with that scene. Both TM and NCW had such command of their characters that no direction was needed. Considering that TM hasn’t acted in GoT for over 3 years and was able to come in and give one of the best performances/scenes this show has ever had is simply incredible and a testament to his ability.
If that’s true, Sue, that would be a serious oversight on D & D’s end. The score for the entire series has been great. I do, however, think “Light of the Seven” is the best piece Ramin has done for the show and it’s one of my favorites to play over and over again.
Jonathan Banks didn’t have as much of an acting showcase in season 2 of Better Call Saul compared to season 1. Season 2 was more about Bob Odenkirk, Rhea Seehorn (she was robbed to not get a nomination) and Michael McKean. Sooo could Kit Harington actually win that category? :O
I’m disappointed Ramin Djwaldi wasn’t nominated or even submitted. And while BoB was great, I feel like the writing for Winds of Winter was stronger.
And no Sophie? I mean, I’m glad Maisie got a nod but aside from Lena, I felt like Sophie had a stronger material this year. Emelia was meh this season and so was Peter.
That’s for sure. wtf? His music is an integral part of the emotional effect of this show. It’s an absolutely necessary component. Was he up for nomination?
At any rate, major congratulations to those who did get nominated – and Maisie, I wasn’t aware that she’d even been submitted for consideration. That’s exciting – one of our girls has to take the award. Yet, they were all excellent – extremely different motivations and character arcs and each excelled.
I’m most excited for KIT. THE KING IN THE NORTH. YESSIR King of the Emmys. Most of the time I hate to use the word EPIC but it applies to Kit, especially this year. Grats to all! Now the awards show will be really interesting.
Sean C.: I’m not surprised that Maisie would eventually get a nomination; I am surprised that this was the year it happened.
These often seem to be given where an actor has been very solid over a few years but previously missed out, as a kind of cumulative effect of recognition.
She thoroughly deserves the nomination even though the material this season was inconsistent, her work over the years has been outstanding really for someone still relatively inexperienced ( seasons 3 & 4 I think the best). This year I suppose we can say she had to carry the storyline alone rather more (which is not to say that Tom and Faye didn’t make vital contributions too, and the Lady Crane scenes may just have swung it). I don’t think she’ll win but nomination is itself a great achievement.
How are votes handled? Worried that all the GOT actors/directors will split votes.
After being hounded all off season, does anyone deserve it more than Kit?
The emmys have a personal vendetta against Ramin Djawadi.Someone help me unravel this conspiracy theory lol
Yes, I think The Americans was long overdue as well. It is the best show on television after Game of Thrones! Fantastic about Maisie and Kit. If Nina Gold does not get best casting, I will be quite miffed! I also wonder about Djawadi. The music is so amazing….why is he not getting accolades???
I said the same thing! Lena killed it this season (no pun intended)!! She HAS to win!
He was phenomenal this season. Light of the Seven still gives me the chills so I volunteer to help you uncover this fuckery.
So, I went to the Emmys site and looked at all the categories. What I discovered is that there is NO category for music! That’s a downright shame because Ramin produced the very best scoring for a drama series, IMO.
This is something the Emmys should really take a look at because scoring a show is another great category.
Yeah vote splitting is possible, unfortunately. Same with the women. I’d never deny Lena Headey a nomination, she’s unreal, but I think Rhea Seehorn from BCS was more deserving of a nom than Emilia or Maisie.
IDK but in my hunt I found that a Prison Break “sequel” is in the works *facepalm*
well but it was dinklage. He didnt do anything great last season, also this season, he always wins for whatever reason lol. He is a wonderful actor, but you have to be honest, he didnt have that many impactful scenes lately.
Ignore my previous post if you can still see it. The information I was looking at was wrong.
I checked the list of ALL nominations and found the one Ramin should have been nominated for: Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score).
Now there is NO reason why Ramin Djawadi shouldn’t be nominated for scoring the series. His music is perfect.
Agree that The Door and Home were better-written than BotB. Especially The Door. I was disappointed they did not submit it for writing.
I don’t know how writing is evaluated, but if you consider a single episode alone like you’d do a movie, Winds won’t make much narrative sense (except for the first 20 minutes which was extraordinary – but more credit for direction than writing there). Winds of Winter was the finale, wrapping up a lot of storylines (some of them crammed into the episode to get closure for characters – Arya and Sam for example), so maybe they did not submit it for writing to get non-fans vote?
Shadow Shifter: He was phenomenal this season. Light of the Seven still gives me the chills so I volunteer to help you uncover this fuckery.
As do I. His music would be the perfect submission for “Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) so I’m seriously bummed that D & D didn’t nominate him … again.
I was comparing against Jonathan Banks because Banks is who I thought should have won last year over Peter lol. But this year I would give it to Kit Harington.
Yeah I don’t get it.Nothing has better music that Game of thrones on tv right now. Some say he wasn’t submitted but then why would HBO not submit him? Also Bryan Cogman was just complaining about it in twitter so I think he was submitted
Also off-show topic but huge long-deserved congratulations to Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys from The Americans. I hope they both win.
