but where is it filmed? it looks really rainforest like.

There are small islands off the coast & also the hinterland of the Gold Coast is rainforest terrain.

The island is fake and the moonpool is fake. The moonpool is filmed in the H2O studio and the moonpool background is on the greenscreen. And Mako Island is just a picture and the background is also a greenscreen.
