Jack Ede\'s sketch of the One Direction frontman has proved so popular he\'s following his dream of becoming an artist

A teenage artist has quit school and set up his own business after his sketch of Harry Styles went viral online.

Jack Ede, 18, took just four days to complete the picture of the One Direction singer. He uploaded the pencil drawing and was stunned when it was viewed by tens of thousands of people.

Jack said: "I\'m so happy working as an artist, I wouldn\'t want to do anything else. I really enjoyed doing the Harry Styles one because I listen to One Direction\'s music myself.

"My aim is for people to not know whether they are looking at a photo or a painting. I have had so many commissions to do drawings that I am now booked up until at least Christmas. I have just posted one to America - it\'s great that interest in my art has gone worldwide."

Jack spent 50 hours copying a photograph of singer Harry, 20, posing for the camera. To create the drawing, he used only coloured pencils and a battery-powered rubber.

The teenager got such a positive reaction to the sketch that he decided to start producing art full-time. He quit college earlier this month after completing his AS-level exams.

Jack said: "I\'ve been drawing all my life, every day since as long as I can remember. But I only started taking it really seriously in the last few years.

"I love drawing because when I\'m working on something I don\'t think about anything else. Getting good feedback on my work is also a big motivation for me."

Portrait of an Artist: Jack hopes to make a full time living out of his talent, after a positive reaction online.

Jack, of Sleaford, Lincs., gained 24,000 followers on Facebook and 30,000 on Instagram thanks to the drawing of Harry.

He has also drawn other members of the band - including Louis Tomlinson, 22, whose sister has praised his work.

Jack explained: "She lives in Doncaster and I have been talking to her every day for the last two weeks.

"She is sharing my pictures to the 800,000 followers on her Facebook page and I have gained 18,000 followers in a fortnight."

Jack has also drawn lifelike images of other celebs including Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston and other musicians.

Prolific Portraits: Jack has posted a number of his pictures on Twitter, including this one of Earl Sweatshirt from rap group Odd Future.

His mother Julianne Davidson, 38, and father Steven Ede, 42, both think he has remarkable talent – although Steven would rather he finished at school first.

Jack added: "People say there\'s no reason why I can\'t be well-known. My gran says there\'s no chance of me making it, but I disagree."


The teenager isn\'t the first person to quit his studies after inspired by the One Direction singer. Earlier this month Aron Dale hit the headlines for leaving his university course so he could become a professional Styles impersonator.
