Part 9
House: I’ve upset you.
(Cuddy grabbed her jas and tried to leave, but House refused to let her past.)
Cuddy: I’m fine. Can u let me leave?
House: Not yet.
Cuddy: u can’t change, u won’t change. I’ve accepted that.
House: I haven’t.
(Cuddy sighed and looked away from House trying to stop herself from tearing up again.)
House: I’m sorry.
Cuddy: Don’t.
(Cuddy gave House a look of infuriation.)
House: I want u Cuddy.
Cuddy: Please. Just let me go.
House: I’m giving u what u want.
Cuddy: Your telling me what u think I want to hear.
House: I can toon you.
(House raised his eyebrows suggestively.)
Cuddy: I won’t give u the opportunity to.
(Cuddy stood her ground and gave a seductive smile at House.)
(House let Cuddy past, and turned round and watched her leave the clinic as she turned around and gave him another smile.)
House: And I won’t stop.
--
(Cuddy had arrived home, and walked into her bedroom and slumped on her bed. All she could think of was House; should she sacrifice what she wanted for Emily? of answer his call and put her hope in him? Then the phone rang.)
Cuddy: Hello?
(It was the social services.)
Mr.Bridges: Miss Cuddy, my name is Jeff Bridges. I work for the social services.
Cuddy: Yes, what is it?
Mr.Bridges: We have considered your application for adoption. We have decided for u to be the legal parent of Emily.
(Cuddy was speechless and ecstatic at the same time.)
Cuddy: Thank you, thank u so much!
Mr.Bridges: We will be visiting volgende week and then we will need u to come in with a witness to sign the papers.
Cuddy: Thank you. Goodbye.
(Cuddy hung up the phone and stood motionless, was she ready to do this?)
--
(Meanwhile, House was drinking himself to sleep. Sitting on his sofa looking at the half empty bottle of Whisky on his coffee tafel, tabel before making his way to his bureau and rummaging through the bottom drawer. He pulled out a small notebook and flipped through it until a torn old picture fell to the floor. When he picked it up he smiled slightly before going back to drinking his glass of Whisky.)
--
(The volgende dag when House finally arrived at the hospital, he saw that there was something going on in the clinic. Cuddy was chatting with all the nurses who were surrounding her with balloons and giving her cards. House carried on walking to the elevator, when Cuddy saw him her smile fell for a moment before she was distracted again door the celebration.)
(House had just got out of the elevator when Wilson called him over from his office.)
Wilson: House! Did u hear about Cuddy?
(House walked over to Wilson with intrigue.)
House: Her ezel has its own myspace now?
Wilson: She just told me this morning, the adoption people called and she gets to keep Emily.
(House looked sorrowfully at the floor before walking towards his office.)
Wilson: Aren’t u happy for her?!
(House continued to ignore him and swung open his office door.)
--
(It was the late afternoon. Wilson and Cuddy were in her office together talking when House walked in on them.)
Cuddy: Hi.
House: I need u to sign this.
(House reluctantly handed her the papers for a biopsy. Trying not to look at her smiling face, which would only break his heart.)
Wilson: I’ll come back later.
(Wilson left before looking up at Cuddy and giving her a slight nod.)
House: What was that about?
(Cuddy couldn’t keep her smile off her face before she stood up.)
Cuddy: They’ve let me keep Emily.
House:…Congratulations.
(Cuddy paused a moment.)
Cuddy: They asked me to bring a witness with me when I sign the papers volgende week. I was wandering if u would come with me.
(House looked up into Cuddy’s eyes with a serious face.)
House: Sure.
Cuddy: Great.
(There was an awkward moment and then House left.)
Cuddy: Wait.
(House’s hand was about to open her office door when he turned around.)
(Cuddy walked towards him.)
Cuddy: I don’t want u thinking that I will forget about u House.
House: I’m not. I’m happy for you, like I said—
Cuddy: I know.
(There was a tender moment when they looked into each other’s eyes. Cuddy smiled slightly.)
Cuddy: I’m always going to be here for you.
House: I’m so relieved.
(House swung the door open before going back to his work.)
(Cuddy looked on before hanging her head slightly and going back to her desk.)
To be continued.
