From what I've read these designs are good ways humans can send signals to mermaids. The swirl means "I want to meet you" The arrow means "I am your friend" The bottom left image means "Thank you" And the cirkel with the X through it means "This place is not safe"
Draw the design in the sand just above the high tide mark. If on your return the volgende day, the design is still visible, the mermaid has not seen it. If the design has been erased of disturbed, the mermaid has seen and read it --- the message has gotten through.
