Shijima

The story takes place in feudal Japan and follows the adventures of Jubei Kibagami, a mercenary ninja who is gegeven a duty to guard the Dragon Stone and to protect the Priestess of Light (Shigure) from the Hiruko Clan and the Kimon Shu. He is aided door the government spy Dakuan and the thief Tsubute.

Five years before the start of the film, the fictious Yamashiro clan's chief retainers (vassal lords) dig goud out of a secret mine behind their lord's back. The lord of the Yamashiro clan wants to have the goud for himself, but his forces are not strong enough, so he cannot act alone. He also cannot go to the government first, because they would take the goud if they knew about the mine.
