\'Once Upon a Time\': Emma and Hook\'s first date will show her softer side

"Once Upon a Time" Emma and Hook \'shippers have been waiting for this star-crossed couple\'s first date for almost two entire seasons now. On Oct. 19 they will finally get to see the lovebirds get an evening of romance -- something actress Jennifer Morrison admits has taken Emma a long while to work up to. 

"It\'s going to be an interesting time to watch her at times be incredibly vulnerable and open and available. [Then] at times shut down because it becomes too much and then open up a little bit again. It\'s definitely been two steps forward, one step back with her so far in Season 4," Morrison tells Zap2it. 

However, Hook has remained patient and persistent, determined to prove to Emma that they belong together. It\'s really hard to plan a date though when there are constantly snow monsters or evil witches wrecking your evening agenda. 

"It\'s only been 10 minutes since the last crisis," Morrison says. "She\'s put in a situation where she\'s having to constantly react to the situation she\'s in which means either dealing with her parents, or dealing with trying to help Regina not going to the dark side, or dealing with Hook really wanting to spend time with her romantically -- all those things she ends up being in an instinctually reactionary position." 

In the Oct. 12 episode, Emma\'s guard came down when she admitted to Hook that she couldn\'t lose him. The fear is perfectly valid considering that Emma\'s previous romantic interests have ended up dead or reverted back to their childhood selves (literally). It was a rare show of emotion for her character, given that she feels she has to protect everyone from everything, and allowing herself to get attached may make her weak or them a target for whatever evil force is terrorizing Storybrooke. 

That open attitude will continue when the couple goes on her first date. The preview for Sunday\'s episode and pictures of Emma show her in a completely different light. 

"What you will see, even the way she dresses and presents herself when she\'s getting ready to go on a date with this person is going to be something different than you\'ve ever seen for Emma," Morrison says. "You\'re going to see the softer, more girly side of her instead of the guarded protective side of her -- and that will be reflected even in her appearance." 

Emma shouldn\'t be completely off guard though. A clip at Entertainment Weekly reveals that Hook will make a deal with Rumpelstiltskin to get his hand back. Rumpel warns the pirate that his hand belongs to the man that he

used to be, though, which everyone can see as ominous foreshadowing. 

Is Emma\'s heart already in danger or will Hook be able to save the savior, even from himself?

"Once Upon a Time" airs at 8 p.m. ET/PT Sundays on ABC.
