In the season premiere, Lionel has washed ashore after the dam broke. He is then dragged away door a mysterious man. No one knows of this, so he is presumed dead door Lex and the media.
Lionel had finally awaken to find himself chained to a bed door a woman, Marilyn. Lionel manages to get loose, but was knocked out door Lana Lang. After Lex Luthor tried to free Lionel, Marilyn had a gun pointed at his son, and Lionel snuck up behind her and beaten her to death. Lionel went to see Lana and knew she was behind his disappearance. He warned her not to continue her sense of retribution of something bad would happen.
