She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a 2018 TV toon that is a reboot of the 1980s She-Ra TV show. However, critics and fans have claimed this toon is much different than the original show, in a good way.
The Plot
Adora is a teen, who was raised door the Horde. The Horde is an evil organization, but Adora was taught to believe that the Horde was a heroic team, that was meant to defeat the vile princesses. In reality, the Horde has been trying to dominate over the princesses and has been doing lots of evil acts. Adora grew up being best vrienden with Catra, a fierce, but caring ally of Adora.
When Adora realizes the Hordes true intentions, she turns against them and becomes She-Ra, a superhero who helps the princesses form a rebellion against the Horde. Adora becomes close vrienden with Glimmer, the princess of Brightmoon and Bow, an archer who is best vrienden with Glimmer. Catra is hurt door Adora leaving and becomes her enemy, as she tries to earn the approval of her superiors, Shadow Weaver and Hordak.
The She-Ra toon has a plot, which is nothing short of epic. The writing is subtle and complex, while still being simple enough for younger viewers to understand and enjoy. The toon is very exciting and action-packed. The characters go through lots of dramatic and emotional storylines, which throwing in plenty of humor, which keeps the toon from being too heavy. Throughout the various episodes, the toon keeps throwing out surprises, thrills, heroic actions, and tons of fun. Adora and Catra, along with their various allies, go through a lot and it's fascinating to watch the characters grow.
The Characters
Both the Rebellion and the Horde are full of captivating characters. The toon has a very strong and memorable ensemble.
On the rebellion side, there's Adora. Adora is a very inspiring, noble, and heroic protagonist. The toon does a great job of making Adora/She-Ra relatable, door giving her flaws. She has lots of problems she has to go through and despite all the conflicts going on, she doesn't give up. She's very likeable, interesting, and cool. Adora is a great mix of serious and humorous. She takes things seriously, when necessary and when things are lighter, she's very entertaining and funny. Glimmer and Bow serve as Adora's closest vrienden and they add lots of hart-, hart and drama to the show. The other princesses in the rebellion are nice additions to the show. Perfuma is very sweet and fun, while Mermista is reserved, but cool and funny. Entrapta is an interesting character, that goes through a lot of changes. Sea Hawk is a hilarious ally to Adora and the gang.
On the side of the Horde, there's Catra. Adora and Catra's relationship is very compelling. Catra is hardcore sneaky and harsh, but deep down, is a tragic, sympathetic character. She goes through a great character arc. Shadow Weaver is a very untrustworthy, manipulative villain, but is very interesting and cool. Hordak is the leader of the Horde. Despite seeming like a generic, world-dominating villain, he turns out to be a fascinating, sympathetic villain. His character progression is done in spectacular fashion.
The Voice Acting
The toon has cast members, that I wasn't familiar with, for the most apart. I'm thankful the toon introduced me to the cast, because the cast does a wonderful job. Everybody is well cast, with standouts being the voice actresses for Adora and Shadow Weaver, as well as Hordak's voice actor.
Progressive
The She-Ra toon has gotten a lot of good reception, for being progressive. The toon makes a lot of subtle comparisons of Adora and Catra's love/hate friendship to a romantic relationship. The toon also makes it clear that Scorpia has a crush on Catra. Also, Bow has two male guardians, who are in a romantic relationship and two of the princesses, Netossa and Spinnerella, are dating each other. In season 4, a non-binary character was added to the cast, called Double Trouble. They even got a non-binary person to voice the character.
The animatie
The toon has beautiful animation. She-Ra is one of the most stylish superheroes of all time. As for Shadow Weaver, she has one of the coolest masks ever and the animatie does a great job at making her express her feelings, with the eyes on her mask. The characters are colorful and has very unique visual designs. It's one of the best looking modern cartoons.
The Theme Song
The theme song used in the toon is about 30 seconds, while the full version is over 2 mins. long. The theme song has great animatie and is incredibly catchy. It gets me in a excited mood.
