Even the best character or couple I'm madly in love with can't help if show has no good storylines... ;/

Always. If there's no good writing then everything falls apart. Good writing and plotlines can also make you overlook bad acting.
The least of my concerns is my favourite couple. It's a bonus, I would be pleased if everything went the way I want for them but they are never the main reason why I watch tv shows.

So obviously, I was thinking about OTH when I made this pick. IMO the show had gone downhill - crappy storylines, crappy characters - crappy show. I love Brooke, but I'm not happy with her current love/romantic storyline. They're currently broken up ATM but knowing the writers, I'm sure she'll get her happy ending. So while I love Brooke, I'd rather her be alone than be with Julian because I don't think they're good enough as a couple. I'd choose an amazing storyline over my fave character's ~happiness~. The same goes for Chair and Naley, they used to be awesome for me but I got tired of Chair playing games and Naley having no decent storylines.

I don't watch shows because of the couples- in fact, I tend to shy away from shows where the primary focus is the relationships. They just never hold my interest. In fact, my favourite show right now[Supernatural] has no couples.

Both. But if the show hasn't got good writing and storylines, it doesn't matter about how good the characters are, I'll lose interest.

Totally. I can watch a season where one of my favorites couples isn't together (like season 2 of OTH for example, NH were separated most of the time) and still LOVE the season.

As long as it has good storylines, the show will be good. And the characters will be better too.

And like fanfly said, some shows don't even have couples.
Like SPN and Heroes, and i loveee those shows. So yea. =P

Couples and characters do matter a lot for me, but the show isn't worth watching if there isn't a good storyline.

It's the reason why I like the shows I like, even if I don't like any of the couples. :)
But I usually have to identify with at least one character to get into the show.

Both are obviously important, but the storyline is the thing that really matters. For example, my favourite charactor is Brooke, but I loathe OTH after S4.
