Why does Elena look alike to Katherine, according to the books?

@Kadelly Elena is not Katherine and vice versa! Now @Krvopija Yes, Your right. The boeken never fully explain in details why Elena and Katherine Look alike. In the show, they do explain Why they look alike. And also Stefan and Damon see Elena {in the book} as herself.

Also, I think in the books, since it's never truly explained why they both look alike, it's suposed to be left like that... As a mystery. I mean I doubt Elena is adopted in the boeken since she looks like her little sister, they both have blond hair and blue eyes. I'll leave it as it is for now, a mystery.

The way u say it sounds confusing... from what I read, u say that Katerina (Katherine) gave birth to Isobel and that's not true. She did give birth to a baby girl but Isobel was born like 500 years later. Katherine is Elena's great-ggreat-great (repeat like 100000 times) grandmother
