The Vampire Diaries Vraag

Who made the brothers vampires?

Was it katherine before she where "locked up" in the tumb.. but now we now she never were, but before she were discovered then? have only seen the tv toon this far and it seemd like the brothers were human when katherine were taken away? Am i all wrong, glad for help, like to know! Ordered the boeken so waiting for the delivery..

Katherine turned both brothers into vampires and then 'faked' her death. I think the boeken are alittle different than the tv toon so dont be surprized if the stories dont match up.
