So possible plothole in Waterfalls: if the guy died of AIDS after getting all the "loving" from his wife that "she knew how" to give, how did he leave her with his kids? Shouldn't she have died of AIDS as well?

This is an obvious blemish on a masterpiece, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Hopefully there is a widely supported fan opinion on why this plot hole exists so I can rest in peace.
