Twilight unlike Harry Potter has SEX. something to get a mature reader into.
Twilight unlike Harry Potter started from a dream. Inspiring dreamers.
Twilight unlike Harry Potter shows real depression unlike Harry who always complains his parents died and he didnt even know them of when his uncle. of whoever died he was happy in a couple of days.
Bella she was really and truly depressed and HURT.
Twilight boeken arent as long as Harry Potter boeken u dont have to sit there and read page aftert page of nothingness
Twilight teaches us that we can be mature about bad situations and that we dont have to "fight" things out we can sit down and talk about things like mature adults.
Twilight teaches us that we dont have to fall in love with one person and stay in love with them for the rest of our lives. for example bella and edward and jacob :) she had choices. even though she had picked edward she CHOSE to do it.
Twilight teaches us the true value of love. yeah it might have lust in it. but its love.
Twilight has a happy ending no one dying and thats what a good book is always about.
and its just so fucking awesome

Ycariadcraig BUT WE ARE MISSING THE MAIN POINT TWILIGHT DOES NOT HAVE GINGERS HUGE REASON WHY POTTER BEATS TWILIGHT your argument is irrelevant :D
Pottergurly2012 Twilight unlike Harry Potter has SEX. something to get a mature reader into.
Not all good books need sex you can have romance with out sex!
Twilight unlike Harry Potter started from a dream. Inspiring dreamers.
Dumbledore said it does not do well to dwell on dreams!

Bella she was really and truly depressed and HURT.
First of Edward didn't die he dumped her and left her the level of hurt she went thru wasn't normal. And it was Harrys god father that died and he was hurt and angry for a long time thru to his sixth year almost bella was bitching cause her sparkly boyfriend left her totally stupid on his part btw.
Twilight books arent as long as Harry Potter books you dont have to sit there and read page aftert page of nothingness Twilight is longer and you have to read page after page of bad grammer and spelling and bella obbsessing over this boy shes known for a few mothes.
Twilight teaches us that we can be mature about bad situations and that we dont have to "fight" things out we can sit down and talk about things like mature adults.
Harry tried it didn't work plus they killed his parents.
Twilight teaches us that we dont have to fall in love with one person and stay in love with them for the rest of our lives. for example bella and edward and jacob :) she had choices. even though she had picked edward she CHOSE to do it. Edward was overly possessive so was jacob she was tied down by two men Harry had two girlfriends so did ron Ginny had one boyfriend a week like gosh have you READ harry potter?
Twilight teaches us the true value of love. yeah it might have lust in it. but its love.
I do agree with that point but twilight does not have the power of friendship Bella ditched all her human friends for Edward what kind friend is that?
Twilight has a happy ending no one dying and thats what a good book is always about. .
Harry potter is more realistic that way there is no way everybody servives a war.
and its just so fucking awesome
that is not a reason.
lordcorvin Instead of bitching which book is better, there are way better books out there that have more implied SEX than twilight, more character development than Harry Potter with more magic.
It's called Chronicles of Amber check it out and stop bitching
kk5838 @CodswallopInMyO Harry kills a giant snake and almost dies himself to save Ginny.
Actually Neville killed the snake. Just thought I'd point that out.
fixitfelixkid wow!this is so like NOT at all right harry potter is the best book ever! bella is a cry baby who gave up her family for a sparkly vamp. NOT RIGHT!!!!
Renesmee_08 This is so pathetic and annoying. Potterheads and Twihards should be more mature than this. Such a shame.
hp7chiki now this was a mad writing! let me remind you that HARRY POTTER is the world's most read and sold book (after The Holy Bible)
-who told you that Harry is nothing about love! then u mustn't have read the books or even seen the movies! Lily Potter sacrificed for saving harry's life from Voldemort1 that was enough love!
- harry was goin to die in the BAttle Of Hogwats! just to protect the loved ones!
- harry potter is harry potter!....
- well there's no fucking point that harry potter doesn't include sex?!! comeonn tell me...you want ur kids to have sex with your grandpa when they are in their teens! that's disgusting!
- what if i say that edward cullen is a dumbass!!?? yeah..Ron..he wasn't dumb like jasper or like kellan! he always knew what he was doing! he told us what friendship was!! you know...he went to the end of the world with harry and granger! thats friendship and love! not lust!
- how dare u call Hermine weak??!! tell me what did bella ever do for edward other than seducing him! nOTHING!!
-u said that the books were too boring to read?! bahh!! then i would say that twilight is the most fucking book!
- there was no need for the producers to turn the last book into two parts! i freakingly hated the first part! it was sooooooo borin!
- Rob Patt himself has said that he loved playind Diggoy over Edward! deal with it!
some people always have something to say negative about harry potter when they compare it with twilight....but before you type it down..please think deep about your point!
potatofan118 Um, okay, Twilight has sex, something that only adults and maybe mature teens should be avidly reading about, not people of all ages. You don't need sex for something to be good.
I'm pretty sure dreaming doesn't only come from sleeping, like Stephanie Meyer's did. Sure, the HP books didn't really have any "follow your dreams" themes, but dwelling on dreams can stray you from success.
Um, you mean if you had never had a loving family, were an orphan and lived with bullies your whole life, you wouldn't be sad or depressed? And then you found out you had a godfather who was your only loving family, oh, he dies two years later? I wouldn't expect you to complain one bit, after all, you wouldn't want to whine, and you didn't even really know them. Bella was hurt, yes, but by one person, her boyfriend, Harry was hurt by every family member he ever had, and nearly all the adult figures he ever depended on in his life, as well as many of his friends.
If you truly loved reading like the rest of the world, you wouldn't complain. Those books are thousands of pages of awesomeness, don't be ungrateful, you didn't even read the books so you wouldn't know.
Yeah, you don't have to fall in love with the one person. Harry potter doesn't teach that, either. Um, Harry and Cho Chang, Harry and Ginny Weasley, Ginny and Dean, Ginny and Saemus, Hermione and Viktor Krum, Hermione and Ron, Ron and Lavender, and the golden couple, Lily and James!
Oh, right. Civilized talks. So when you face the daily threat for thirty years about a psychopath serial killer with an army of merciless murderers, you tell me how sitting and having a civilized conversation works out for you. Would you like some bread with that cheese?
Wait, so you're telling me that Harry Potter, a book series based upon the fact that LOVE IS THE MOST POWERFUL THING OF ALL, isn't about TRUE LOVE?
And being realistic, having people die, that's bad? Well newsflash, stuck-up princess, EVERYONE DIES. Good guys, bad guys, everyone. And I'm pretty sure dying to save your home, friends, family, and strangers is way better than jumping off a cliff for an attempted suicide because your lover left you.
Learn your facts and don't blindly accuse the HP series. I get that maybe some things are better in Twilight. But God, I shouldn't have been able to counter this argument so freaking easily!
ravenclaw8814 Um...I think this is my cue.
Twilight has adult content, I get it. That doesn't automatically make it great. Harry Potter, due to its content, is more open to readers of ALL ages. Plus, Harry Potter is mature. Sure, it doesn't have sex. It has deep events, such as war.
Dreams are not to be dwelled on.
Let us put it this way. If your parents were killed by a terrifying Dark Lord when you were a baby, you wouldn't mourn? No. That is truly worthy of sadness. If your boyfriend leaves you for your own safety, you should be grateful that he's putting his life at stake for you. It's only natural to miss him, but not get numb and jump off a cliff! Harry never met his parents, that is truly SAD.
Harry Potter books may be long, but they are good, well-written books. They actually go by pretty fast, and each page has great meaning inscribed on it.
In Harry Potter, given the situation, Harry can't just talk to Voldemort about killing his parents! Plus, Voldemort is AFTER HARRY! They can't sit back and "Talk Things Out"!
"We don't have to fall in love with one person" ARE YOU PROMOTING CHEATING?!
Does Harry Potter NOT teach us about the value of love? It does! The whole PLOT is based on how love is the strongest thing out there! Harry's more gave up her life for Harry. Why? Because she LOVED Harry! She didn't do it because it was cool or whatnot, but because she love him.
That's is one of the major things that makes Twilight unrealistic. There is a WAR and NO one dies?! That is as unrealistic as it gets. People who serve in the Army don't die? I wish! Plus, dying characters creates EMOTION! A good book has emotions. It makes us cry! It take a lot to reduce a reader to tears.
There you go. HP FOREVER!
Phoenix-Feather OK I know that loads of people have said this but I am going to say it again.
1. Twilight unlike Harry Potter has SEX. something to get a mature reader into.
Books classed as 'mature' do not all have to have sex in them. Mature means grown-up, so mature could easily be interpreted to mean that there are ideas and concepts that younger readers could grasp. In this context Harry Potter is more mature than Twilight, as although it can be read by all ages there are many concepts that will go straight over the head of a younger reader, like the story of Severus Snape, or the reason Dumbledore asked Snape to murder him.
2. Twilight unlike Harry Potter started from a dream. Inspiring dreamers.
It is true that Twilight came from a dream, but that is not necessarily a good thing. JK Rowling spent 15 years writing school rules, Ministry laws, character profiles and basically constructing the whole world in her head. Her knowledge of the magical world is so vast that she could immediatley answer any question about it. Because the idea for Twilight came to Meyer in a dream, and she didn't spend much time really getting to know her characters before rushing the dream into a book, you don't get the feeling that there is a whole world behind the book.
3. Twilight unlike Harry Potter shows real depression unlike Harry who always complains his parents died and he didnt even know them or when his uncle. or whoever died he was happy in a couple of days.
Bella she was really and truly depressed and HURT.
Firstly, his godfather Sirius Black died. Harry does not 'always complain that his parents died', he misses them and occasionly longs for the life he might have had if they hadn't died and he hadn't become famous. When Sirius died, Harry was definitely not 'happy in a couple of days'. He spends the entire next summer doing nothing much but lying on his bed trying to come to terms with it. He does get over Sirius' death eventually, but getting over the fact that someone you loved has died does not make you happy. It means that you can carry on with life, you don't let your misery drown your real character and never have a laugh or good times again. If that happened every time someone died, the world would be an incredibly depressing place to live. Bella being 'really truly depressed and hurt' consists of her becoming near comatose for months before purposly putting herself in grave danger just to hear Edward's voice. That is not really truly depressed and hurt, that is someone who has become obsessed and a danger to herself and others. Plus, to manmy (myself included) it just makes her seem quite sad. Although love is incredibly important and powerful, trying to kill yourself just because someone left you for your own safety is not clever, admired or desirable. As for being really hurt by the actual fact he left her, two situations almost identical to this happen in Harry Potter. Fiorst, Harry breaks up with Ginny for her own safety. Although this makes Ginny incredibly sad, she continues to live, resisting the new regime at Hogwarts and heading the DA with Neville and Luna. Also, Remus leaves Tonks while certain that to stay with her is dangerous for her and their son Teddy. Tonks is wrecked by this, but continues to stand up for what she believes in, until Remus returns to her.
4. Twilight books arent as long as Harry Potter books you dont have to sit there and read page aftert page of nothingness
This completley contradicts your first arguement concerning maturity. If you cannot appreciate fine language, and need kissing, sex or a massive battle every few pages to keep you entertained, you are not mature.
5. Twilight teaches us that we can be mature about bad situations and that we dont have to "fight" things out we can sit down and talk about things like mature adults.
So does Harry Potter. After Sirius' death, at first Harry is filled with a violent rage at Dumbledore, who understands this and allows Harry to wreck his office. However Harry soon realises that this isn't helping, and once he has calmed down Dumbledore explains everything to him, leaving Harry much calmewr than before. Harry Potter also makes us realise that we don't have to fight our way out all the time, again demonstrated after Sirius' death. Originally Harry wants to kill Dumbledore (or at least thinks he does) but realises that violence will not fill the place Sirius has left.
6. Twilight teaches us that we dont have to fall in love with one person and stay in love with them for the rest of our lives. for example bella and edward and jacob :) she had choices. even though she had picked edward she CHOSE to do it.
That is true, but again this is also shown in Harry Potter. Harry, when first hit by adolesence, develops a crush on Cho Chang, and has his first kiss, we can feel that Harry is 'in love'. However we also have some sort of premonition that its not going to work out. Almost all the characters are girlfriend/boyfriend to another character before finding who they really want to be with. For example, Harry - Cho, Ron - Lavendar, Hermione - Viktor Krum, Ginny - quite a few, as she trys to get over Harry, Neville - Luna.
7. Twilight teaches us the true value of love. yeah it might have lust in it. but its love.
I beg to differ. Bella and Edward's 'love' is not love really, it is obsession. Bella loves Edward because he is beautiful, she can't figure out if he is human or not and he stalks her. Edward loves Bella because he is intrigued by the fact he can't read her mind. That is not love.
8. Twilight has a happy ending no one dying and thats what a good book is always about.
A good book does not have to be a happy-go-lucky story in which problems are solved by a magical fairy godmother. Mature books deal with mature themes such as death. Everyone will have to experience the loss of a loved one. Mature books, as stated above, do not simply contain sex, but adult themes such as death. Harry Potter also has a happy ending, the entire series ended with 'All was well'. Yes, some big characters die, but that is simply part of life.
9. And its just so f**king awesome
That is not a reason, it is an opinion. Obviously, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but here we are trying to justify that opinion.
I'm sorry if that all came across rudley, I didn't mean it to. I will be very happy to try and refute any more points that you can offer, or mistakes with my argument.
personawesome First, the first 3 comments are riddiculous so don't even get me started on them, but Harry Potter is ALL ABOUT LOVE! That is the reason Harry is alive, his mothers love saved him. That is real love. Not cheesy stupid sparkling vampire love.
Plus is NO ONE dies you have no emotion to the series, no connection besides wanting to be Bella.
Really? A dream? Dumbledore once said "No good dwells on dreams' CLEARLY SOMEONE DID NOT LISTEN!
laura_hartmann guys stop arguing with her... whatever makes her sleep at night
GinnyRonFred A book does not need SEX too be good,
i had a dream about an evil monster chasing a 4 year old but i will not write a book about it,
so bella is sad and suicidal cuz he boyfriend left enough said,
stephanie uses 3 pages out of the whole book talking about edwards stupid eyes (!),
ok but a good story should have SOME interresting parts, wich twilight might have one the end,
yeah cuz we had noooo idea bella was going to chose the sparkely vamp (yeah right),
loving someone who wants to eat you is not love,
when characters die in books it creats emotion and since no dies in twilight we can't hate the evil people as much
and yes i vampire who sparkles that falls i love with a clumsy always depressed girl cuz of her blood is awesome! (yeah right)
StarkidDanni815 Okay I would like to point out that, "Twilight was based on a dream, inspiring dreamers." Is a very inaccurate statement for the following reasons:
Reason #1- "It does no good to dwell on dreams" -Dumbledore has freakin' spoken
Reason #2- Dreamers, does not refer to a persons actual dreams i.e. the dreams we experience at night. It refers to a persons desires and goals, as in the dream to one day become famous or stop poverty.
So not only does your statement not make sense to anyone who realizes what a dreamer is but it is one of the few reasons people have been able to come up with as to why Twilight is better, which the majority of the population (including myself) would disagree with. Mischief Managed.
StarkidDanni815 Also your statement "You don't have to read pages and pages of nothingness." Makes absolutely no sense because, as i have heard from many sources, there are ACTUAL pages of nothingness in New Moon.
Amitygirl226 Twilight and Harry Potter are completely different books so its hard to compare them. I don't care if you like Twilight but don't even compare it to Harry Potter. Twilight is about a girl who falls in love with some sparkly guy and decides she would rather die than live without him. Is that love or stupidity? Harry was sad that he lost his parents and he didn't know if anyone actually cared about him but he sucked it up and went on with his life. Bella was depressed that Edward who she had known for like a couple weeks left her so she decided to chuck herself off a cliff. And pages of nothing. I was captivated the whole time I was reading Harry Potter and there are actual blank pages in New Moon. ???. Harry Potter will be in my heart. Always. Until the end. (What can you quote from Twilight?)
ellasparrow1 Twilight unlike Harry Potter has SEX. something to get a mature reader into.
...and the sex is written really badly. Books don't need sex- they need romance.
Twilight unlike Harry Potter started from a dream. Inspiring dreamers.
That doesn't make twilight good.
Twilight unlike Harry Potter shows real depression unlike Harry who always complains his parents died and he didnt even know them or when his uncle. or whoever died he was happy in a couple of days.
Bella she was really and truly depressed and HURT.
Bella was depressed because her over controlling boyfriend dumped her!! Harry's parents died to protect him!!
Twilight books arent as long as Harry Potter books you dont have to sit there and read page aftert page of nothingness
...these reasons are bullshit.
Twilight teaches us that we can be mature about bad situations and that we dont have to "fight" things out we can sit down and talk about things like mature adults.
No, twilight teaches us to go commit suicide after our boyfriends leave.
Twilight teaches us that we dont have to fall in love with one person and stay in love with them for the rest of our lives. for example bella and edward and jacob :) she had choices. even though she had picked edward she CHOSE to do it.
...and harry had cho, and ginny.
Twilight teaches us the true value of love. yeah it might have lust in it. but its love.
No, it's not,
Twilight has a happy ending no one dying and thats what a good book is always about.
and its just so fucking awesome
...excuse me, I have to go throw up
whateverman11 There are so many things wrong with this. But I don't feel like telling you all it. What I really want o tell you is about twilight having more depression than harry potter. HA! So I guess you didn't know that j.k. Rowling actually struggled with clinical depression for years and that dement ours are symbolic of that. You can't say that twilight shows what depression really is and harry potter doesn't. Stop being an idiot and do your research before you post it.
whateverman11 I meant to say demontors. Stupid auto correct. Doesn't change the facts.
karolinak1999 wow! what are Potterheads doing on the Twilight spot? some unwanted guests..
ninoikiling I really need to point this, since no one talks about Severus Snape, who, in my opinion, is the most beautiful character that JKR has ever made.
"Bella was really and trully depressed and hurt," she said.
"Love is lust," she said.
So, what about Snape, who trully loved Lily, his very best friend since he was a kid, who he grew together with, his dearest and the only one friend he had, and saw her marrying the most jerk-ass boy (at least in Snape's point of view) in the school, and watched her died?
He also had to protect their son, Harry, who always reminded him of the man he hated the most in the world, yet whenever he looked into Harry's eyes, he always looked at Lily's eyes, and it made him feel happy, and angry, and sad in the same time?
Oh, in the end, he also sacrificed his life for Harry, because after all this time, he always loved Lily, and he loved Harry too like his own son, and he wanted to protect him.
So what do you think about Snape? After all the shits he had been through, I guess you will say it's not love at all, huh? It's not depressing to be Snape, huh?
Himanshu82000 The reasons you have written are bullshit and full of crap. Does a book gotta have sex to make it interesting. And you complain that harry always cry about his parents. Harry never does that. Its Bella who is a crybaby. Half of new moon was about Bella moaning and crying over Edward. And its true that HP books are long but are way more interesting than twilight. I doubt you have read them that's why you are saying untrue things about HP. And do you seriously think Bella and Edward are mature? Yeah Bella has been real mature by leaving her family behind, getting married and pregnant at 18, becoming a vampire just to be with her 'one true love'. There has been loads more killing and fights in twilight than in HP. What's this nonsense about not staying with your love forever and falling in love with another and then leaving them. Hello that's called cheating. And HP has love in it too. Its love what makes harry save his friends when they are in trouble and staying with them together. You should read about Snape and Lily and that will tell you what love is. Did you know that the least successful HP movie has grossed more 90 million dollars more than the most successful twilight movie? I suggest you find out about more sensible reasons rather than this shit and I doubt you will find any because Harry Potter is 1000 times better than twilight.
HogwartsIsHome you know, when i feel sad or bored i just read reasons like these of why "twilight is better than Harry Potter" , it always makes me feel better because it's just pathetic, what do you expect?? Harry and his friends go and meet Voldy and his DeathEathers to TALK IT OUT?? I mean if Meyer wrote the HP books it would probably end like:
Harry was sad about his parents, about Sirius and all his friends, but he forgave Voldemort, who had given up his search for the Elderwand, because now there was peace. "I'm sorry Harry that i killed Sirius but i think i just wasn't in my right mind" said Bellatrix who was now a very good friend of Ginny. And then suddenly a girl said: "Well I'm happy we solved that out." It was Bella, a girl who looked almost perfect, or well, not even almost, and looked like she would jump of a cliff because of her perfect boyfriend left her....
Sorry but Twilight just sucks...
And i mean: what did you think: no one would die in the HP books because that never happens in wars?!
Flickerflame Honestly, all of this Twilight/Harry Potter rivalry thing is just pathetic. They have close to nothing in common! Ok, 2 of the films were competing against each other at the Box Office at the same time, there's one actor who's been in both series, and a few shared character names and surnames. But nothing really to make it worth comparing the two, or to say someone can only like one. I just wish you'd keep the comparisons to the various versus clubs Fanpop has for the fandoms.
Lennons-malfoy A bad dream I'll tell you what. Maybe to her it was good but she should have planned it out instead if just writing down.
I like a long book.
Did you know mood changes were a sign of depression? I have it.
Sometimes to win peace you must fight.
I'd rather be in love with one person than play around with others feelings
I'd rather be in love than in lust.
Harry potters ending was a good one.
That's a matter of opinion
Have a nice day/night
