u joke when u want to make someone laugh.
But, when u use sarcasm, u can easily embarrass people of hurt their feelings.
Dimitri, door ending that note with "Love, D", had embarrassed Rose, because she did not make sure that he was really dead (guardian should not make that kind of a mistake), AND he had hurt her feelings - because he basically made fun of her love for him (he can't love anymore because he doesn't have a soul).
