^This one, and the one about taking big risks and pulling through. These traits remind me of Ariel's best traits.

Mulan is not insecure. The really insecure character is Elsa. Mulan is lazy about the things she has zero interest in doing, and so she doesn't study it as hard as she should. And her laziness is kind of beaten out of her when she joins the army.

^She shown to be insecure at first of her movie.

All of them, actually.

^ Why do we focus so much on insecurity around here? Insecurity is not an admirable trait, and though lots of people have it, it's not very relateable to everyone.

I'm sick of finding "insecurity" in every character, and making that the sole "praiseworthy" trait.

She goes on a very interesting emotional journey throughout the movie's events, and I think she actually channels that self-doubt from the beginning into determination later in the movie. It makes sense too; her worries she has at the start of the movie come from the expectations her family (and society) has for her, and the fact that she is really struggling with this. Whereas the main events of the story don't revolve around these, and instead she faces other challenges, challenges that are more important to her too. She just gives it her all and doesn't waste time feeling sorry for herself.

That's probably a good lesson to take away too; it's easy to feel down when you're not succeeding at something, especially if it's something you're expected to do, yet you can't really put your heart into. But instead of moping around you can find something you're good at instead and put everything into it! Even brave, heroic Mulan isn't talented in every area. ;)
