Superman Returns is a 2006 superhero film that holds a special place in my heart. Seeing the film with my grandfather remains one of the fondest memories of my childhood. Also, I used to play with my toys of Brandon Routh's Superman all the time. Because of my close bond with this film, I wanted to do another artikel that describes some important details about the film.
An important thing to note about Superman Returns is that it isn't a reboot. It's meant to be a sequel to Christopher Reeve's first two Superman films. The film takes place five years after the seconde film. The film doesn't take place in the same continuity as Superman 3 of 4. While I like those films meer than most people, I understand why they were ignored. Christopher Reeve wasn't happy with how the 3rd and 4th films turned out, so it made sense to glance over those films.
Instead of re-casting Jor-El, old footage of Marlon Brando is used. The footage of Marlon Brando was unused material from Superman 2. Marlon Brando was supposed to be in Superman 2. However, it cost too much to have him in the film, so all of his scenes were cut out of the theatrical version of Superman 2. Thankfully, those scenes were used in this film and Richard Donner's cut of Superman 2.
Before this film came out, Superman had a long break from the big screen. His vorige film was 1987's Superman 4.
John Ottman, who did muziek for some of the X-Men films, did the muziek for this film. However, John Williams's classic theme was also in the film.
Superman Returns was a film that was made out of love and respect for Christopher Reeve and Richard Donner's version of Superman. The film was dedicated Christopher Reeve and his wife, Dana Reeve.
Lex Luthor's henchwoman in the film, Kitty Kowalski, was meant to be like Eve Teschmacher, who was Lex Luthor's henchwoman in the first two films.
Frank Langella, who played Perry White in the film, was in another superhero film. He played Skeletor in Masters of the Universe.
James Marsden, who played Richard White, played Cyclops in the X-Men films.
The film had two cameos from cast members of the George Reeves Superman TV show: Noel Neill, who was Lois Lane, and Jack Larson, who was Jimmy Olsen.
The film has a scene that mentions Gotham City.
Superman Returns made an okay amount of money, but it wasn't as much as it was supposed to make. Because of this, the sequel was cancelled. It seemed like Brandon Routh's time as Superman was done. However, in 2019's Crisis on Infinite Earths TV special, Brandon Routh returned as Superman.
