Channing Tatum Is Honing His Card-Throwing Skills for 'Gambit'

He's working with a real-life magician, so don't worry.

Channing Tatum is working hard to nail the most important thing about X-Men hero Gambit in his upcoming movie — or at least the second most important thing depending on how you feel about a Cajun accent. He\'s pushing himself to learn to throw playing cards with the kind of deadly force that could injure a watermelon or knock over a plastic cup.

Of course, such skills aren\'t learned in a day, but writing partner Reid Carolin told ScreenRant.com he\'s witnessed firsthand Tatum\'s devotion to the practice. "Last night, we were with my friend who I went to college with — this guy David Kwong, who is an incredible magician — and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do sleight of hand."

Carolin says Tatum\'s Cajun accent isn\'t quite ready yet, but he says they\'ll begin shooting the solo Gambit film in the fall in New Orleans. "To be honest, I don’t watch big movies for pleasure a lot, but this script convinced me that we should be making this movie."

No word on whether we\'ll get some sort of Gambit teaser in next year\'s 

. Hopefully at some point we\'ll actually see Gambit and Rogue onscreen together, but no one\'s saying when that might happen.
