Her lungs screamed for meer air, any air, her body begged for meer heat, any heat. The energy had already seeped trough her clothes into the surrounding depths. All senses threatened to shut down and leave her lost in the darkness alone and too exhausted to give a care.

The chain around her ankles was keeping her from fighting back and pulled her down, down, down, deeper into the endless abyss. She tried to keep her eyes open, concentrating with non-existing energy on that last blotch of sunlight that filtered through the icy layer that had frozen over. It taunted the helpless girl. The bonds around her wrists wouldn't even allow her to reach up toward that fading beacon of life.

But the peace is gone now. The brand in her veins is relit and coaxes red embers back into flickering flames, resetting the heat in her body and hart-, hart and soul. She strives to take a breath of air and coughs up lake water. She reopens her eyes and is met door dark blotches. Multiple blinks bring glistening smaragd, emerald eyes into focus. A sigh of relief reaches her ears.
"Welcome back to the land of the living," her partner breaths.
